Dynamic Display Pics in Latest MSN Messenger Beta

Microsoft has released a new version of the MSN Messenger to the beta testers. MSN Messenger 7.0.732 incorporates some long speculated features, most notably dynamic display pictures.

Top changes in this version:
  • You may now use Dynamic Display Pictures
  • You may now send text messages to T-Mobile mobile phones in addition to Verizon Wireless
  • The maximum number of contacts you can add has been increased to 300 contacts (as of 3/21 for all MSN Messenger customers)
  • All references to ".NET Passport" have been changed to "Microsoft Passport" (if not, let us know!).
  • Fixed: Cannot exit handwriting mode if selected with a contact who cannot view handwriting
  • Fixed: Single pixel black border around display pictures
  • Fixed: Online contacts appear in the "Offline" group
  • And many more
Know issues in this version:
  • MSN Messenger now requires Internet Explorer 6.0
  • "Offline Messaging" actually refers to offline mobile messaging. Clearer text will be used in the final product.
  • Short-cut key for "Always Sign in as" (Alt+G) does not work
  • Screen saver or monitor power saver may kick in during a Video Conversation

You'd think they would let the beta testers actually use the Dynamic Display Pics (Muggins) without forcing us to fork over our cash. :(

And you'd think they'd come up with a better name than "Muggins"... and better artwork. And the option to really create your own. And the option to simply use animated GIF files... and... and... oh well.

Well, I'm not sure I'd use these on MSN, the ones on Yahoo! are free and you can customize them (to a point) and they add more and more. Do you think there will be an exploit with these "Muggins" though making them not so safe to use?

Doesn't the NDA only apply to beta testers?
