Windows Live Messenger Beta Refresh Build 0689

Microsoft today officially released an update to the Windows Live Messenger Beta. Build 0689 is available for download now at http://g.msn.com/1csbeta/Mess80_EN

It requires a provisioned account to sign-in, but anyone can get provisioned by visiting ideas.live.com. If you're already using the Windows Live Messenger beta, your account is already provisioned.

This new build includes enhancements to the look-and-feel, updates the color scheme, and improvements to add-ins and voice calls.

I hope you all agree that is SEXY. I also love the fact that when you send two or more messages in a row, it doesn't show your name in all of the sentences like before, just once, like in Google Talk =D

For those that don't like the whole typing in a row sentences thing, you can disable it. I personally like it and I like how WLM is turning out. Not really WOW but nice and simple and that works for me.

I did have one funky problem during the install. I tend to not close down programs when I install something (yeah, I know, "bad Jeff"). Well this build prompted me to close a few programs, which I dutifully did ("good Jeff") and clicked retry. The setup chugged away a little longer, and then spit back another warning to close a running application before continuing with the setup. The catch? The application was the WLM setup!

I attached a screenshot just to prove I wasn't hallucinating.

For what it's worth, it wasn't a real problem. Clicking the "ignore" button worked just fine.
