Windows Live Messenger Error 80004005 Solved
Microsoft yesterday released a new version of Windows Live Messenger that improves voice and video quality and finally solves a very thorny problem; "Error 80004005 - Can't log in." This has been the WLM team's number one support problem, and it's finally fixed in this new version. The problem stemmed from people creating really long friendly names with formatting and emoticons. There is a character limit for the friendly name -- the name that appears to your friends in their contact list -- but that limit could be broken by adding emoticons or other formatting to your name. WLM product manager Leah posted a bit more on the team blog, but the good news is, it's fixed! Download Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0812 now, and read more at the WLM team blog. |

What a load of rubbish
OK - So I've installed WLM version 8 build 8.0.0812.00 and I'm getting the ubiquitous 80004005 login error.
After initial installation, and for a couple of weeks, WLM was working perfectly but then, suddenly, this started happening. I have Googled the universe looking for the solution and have found such a lot of rubbish about so-called "guaranteed" fixes. Nothing I've tried works. But here's the real issue here... Somewhere in Microsoft's code there's an error condition arising and being detected and this error message is being emitted. So why is it that whoever wrote this piece of code can't explain to the world at large what's going on? Seriously Microsoft - This is surely one of the most pathetic attempts at gaining respect in the IM community ever. Just use Skype folks. It works. It's free. (No I don't work for Skype but I am a software developer and I can assure you that the "support" that Microsoft are offering for this and similar problems is nothing short of pathetic). Wake up Bill G. Get your stupid developers to resolve this once and for all. |
