Forced upgrade to WLM 8.1 for users of older versions
If you're using an older version of MSN or WLM prior to 8.1, you will be asked to upgrade before you can log in. This is Microsoft's way of addressing a security vulnerability in the older versions (read it here) Users of WLM8.1 and 8.5 are not affected by this. More info is available here.
Strangely enough, there is an updated version of MSN Messenger 7.0, with the version number 7.0.0820, available at this Microsoft website. This version isn't affected by the security exploit mentioned above, and is for users of Windows 2000, which doesn't support WLM8.1. It also supports Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, and Windows XP. If you need further info about this, please post your questions in the MSN/WLM forum, since this thread is for news topics. Thanks. |
