NETRYDER is on a distinguished road (10)
Hello all, I am new here but saw the problems that some were having and wanted to help and to ask questions.
I recently installed WinXP and then MSN6 and began having problems. MSN4.7, which installed with the OS, works fine, but ver.6 would not allow a sign in. I got the error that stated it was unable to connect to the SOCKS proxy server. Since MSN4.7 worked I decided to do some comparisons.
In the setup for MSN6, I found that the section under TOOLS/OPTIONS/CONNECTION has a tick box for "I use a proxy server" and the box was checked. Also, the selcetion for 'Type' was set to 'SOCKS Version 4'.
In the setup for MSN4.7, this box was NOT checked.
So, in MSN6 I UN-CHECKED the box and tried to sign in...and it works fine!

OK This is really bugging me now. I haven't been to sign in for 4 days on my main E-mail account now, I get the 'Signing in to .NET Messenger Service failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later' Thingy.
I've tryed all the solutions in this thread and nothing has solved it. I can't sign into; MSN Messenger 5 or 6, or even Windows Messenger. I can still sign into hotmail.com to get my E-mail and I have changed my password twice. Another thing is though I can still sign into all MSN Messengers with all of my other E-mail addresses, but this leaves me with none of my contacts as they are all on my main account.
Anyone with the same problem? Or a solution please reply.
Cheers _z!

Okay, this is for everyone who is having troubles getting into MSN 6. I now have the problem that my .NET service is not recognized on my coputer, so when I sign in it says that my password is incorrect, or the name does not exist. Also, I get a 404 error when I try and get into my e-mail. I have no firewall, proxy, my time is correct, blah, blah, blah, and I've tried everything that's posted on this forum at least twice. But I HAVE found out a way to get into my MSN account and talk to people WITHOUT MSN messenger. It's a preogram called apni.net messenger, and it can be found from this link: http://www.apni.net/content/downloads/im.shtml
i hope this helps soothe some of the MSN pain that I've been having, too.

Can someone please find a solution? Using Zone Alarm as a server worked for a while but now it won't anymore, and deleting registry keys wouldn't work. MSN tech support wouldn't provide me with any feasible solutions and now they've stopped responding.

Ok, it works fine for me but it does not work for my girlfriend.
It says "we were unable to sign you into .NET messenger service possible because of a problem with your connection...."

She can't get msn.co.uk or hotmail.com to load either but i can, yet i am not having any problems at all...

She uses:
Windows ME
AOL 7.0 Broadband
