OK - Listen-up. I have been trying to re-install MSN Messenger for the past 5 months without success. Then I remembered about Ad-Watch giving me problems before, not letting certain registry modifiers pass through, so I temporarily closed the automatic setting and proceeded to download the Messenger. A lot of registry entries came across and took a chance to allow the to come in, then a window appeared asking me if I wanted to "repair" or uninstall - I told it to repair. It continued on passing a few registry entries and lo and behold the MSN Messenger in it's fully glory appeared... I hope this is it!

Error Code 1603 - PLEASE HELP!

I tried installing both MSN 7.0 Beta & MSN 6.2 but both failed.
When I'm installing, this message appears:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {874793FC-5F43-496A-8FE7-18C4DB9B143D}
HRESULT: -2147024894.

After that, rolling back action occurs & I am told that MSN Messenger was not installed due to error code 1603 & I should download the software from the MSN website.

I already downloaded the software from messenger.msn.com but it still doesn't work. Also, I've tried every solution posted here but it still doesn't work too.

I'm currently using windows xp. I'm using McAfee AntiSpyware & Norton Antivirus 2004. I used to have Lavasoft Ad-Aware but I've uninstalled it.

I've tried disabling my antivirus & antispyware when downloading & installing MSN but it doesn't work too. PLEASE HELP!!

If your computer is an older model, you may need to update/upgrade its BIOS - it worked for me. If it is a Dell, go here: http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportforums

I was getting a message stating that i already had a newer version of msn messenger installed and after dubious searching for 2 hours i found out that MSN Live Messenger is that NEWER version.. uninstalled that.. and installed the latest msn messenger. It turned out to be MSN Live Messenger again but at least it installed correctly and works now. w00t. I hope this helps everyone else.

ps. i used Windows Install Clean-Up wizard to find MSN Live Messenger and uninstall it. search MSN for the download.

Error 1603

Another Possible Fix for 1603

1. Click on Start -> Find -> Files or Folders
2. Search for sfc.dll. It should be under c:\windows\system32\.
3. Rename sfc.dll to sfc.dll.x [x could be any character(s)]
4. You should be able to do the installs now.
5. After you have installed the software, change sfc.dll.x back to
sfc.dll.
6. Done!

I'm actually trying to re-install a game that I've had on my present system. I went to install, and now I get the 1603 error. I tried the above , and now I have a text file that I cant delete or change back to the sfc.dll I still have the original dll file, and now I have the text one as wellHow do I get rid of the text file? The system wont let me. And also-this potential solution didnt work for me either. Please respond to lykynz@aol.com
Thank you.

You tried EVERYTHING? It's been almost a year since the last post in this topic -- I didn't think this issue still was a problem.

What operating system are you using and which version of MSN (or Windows Live Messenger)?

Error code 1601 FIXED

After trying all the suggestions on the forum and still having no luck, I decided to have a dig around.
Go to Control Panel, then Administrative tools, then services.
Check your REMOTE desk, Remote registry, anything with remote as the first word
Right click, open properties, then check your LOG ON details.
Make sure they all match your log on.
