All I know is the error messages said that "my pictures" had an invalid character". I actually got 2 error messages that switched off. 1603 and 1324.
But it's now finally fixed and my MSN 6 works perfectly!! EDIT - Spoke too soon, my sound on MSN 6 isn't working. I went to the main sounds area, saw the listings, put in the sounds but nothing. Hope someone can help me get the sounds working on my MSN messenger, out of ideas. {As this is a seperate problem please post in a new thread} {Moderator Edit- Please use the Edit Button ( |

Hey y'all! I am trying to get MSN Messenger 6.0 to work on my girlfriend's laptop with no avail. She has XP Professional, and I tried running MSN Messenger Install, but the ever-deadly 1603 popped up. I received an error message saying something was wrong with the E: drive, but there isn't one on her laptop. I read earlier here that I need to install Internet Explorer version 6, so I did that, but with no avail. It said that I might need to download a patch from Microsoft. I ran an automatic update from MSN, but that didn't do the trick. I checked out Microsoft's site, and there are dozens of patches, but I don't know which one is the right one.
Do any of y'all know? Post it on the forum. Thanks!

I doubt anyone will know the specific one that may fix your problem, you'll have to run them all. You should install them all anyway, as they will fix any known security vulnerablities in her system. You could try the other solutions posted here first though if your on a slow connection. Good luck.

I worked with it a bit, and the error message I get says "Invalid E: Drive." The only thing is that there is no E: drive on her computer. I tried some of the earlier fixes, but they don't work, and I couldn't find much on Microsoft's Website. Does anybody have any information on the error message that says "Invalid E: Drive", or better yet, how to fix it? Thanks!

Hey everyone, I also had the same problem on my sisters laptop, I first got the error message "invalid drive E:", and afterwards error 1603, I tried the solutions on this site, but they didn't work, Since my sister laptop doesn't have a drive E, but only A through D, there was no way to install msn, but I learned that she sometimes used a memorycard, which when plugged in was labeled as "removable drive E:", I simply plugged in the memory card and tried to install msn again, and it worked, afterwards I tried to run without the card and it worked perfectly. So when you get this error, you probably have (or had) a portable HD or a memorycard installed on your computer. The solution is to plug in this device and install, or when you don't have this hardware anymore, just loan one. Maybe you should try to uninstall the removable drive and msn will install too, I havent tried this so maybe you should too!
I hope I have helped you guys! greetz Nathan |

Backlash, please don't double post. There is an Edit Button
As to your problem, if you don't have that directory, that fix obviously won't work for you. Try one of the other fixes posted. Desktop - Glad the fix helped you. All the commands do is Unregister the msiexec file then re-register it again with Windows. I didn't come up with the solution so you would have to ask the original writer why it works, you can follow the link under the solution given to see the original post.
