I have a Dimension 4600 windows PX prof and I had this voice problem like you for some weeks. Finally I ONLY unenabled the QoS from my Lan cable connection and the voice came! I do not know how or why! But the other opposite person talking to you must also have Windows XP. At first I also tried by exiting Zonealarm firewall and also my XP ICF (internet Comm Firewall) but now I have them both on and I am working both ways with Audio and video on MSN Messenger. Good luck. Goff |

Goff123,
Cheers, but I tried that last night to no avail. LAN cable - Local Area Network? I have a dial up modem so no LAN involved or am I being daft? Told you I was a computer dimbo I think I'll have a bash with these .dll files tonight. |

WEBCAM FIXES
Make sure u've downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturers websites Firstly, make sure you've gone through the Audio (and Video) Tuning Wizard in Messenger. To do so, open the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then Audio Tuning Wizard, then go through the wizard to select and test your audio/video devices. If you are using type of third-party firewall (ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security, etc.) make sure that in the Firewall program's settings that Messenger is set to "Permit All", "Allow All" or "Medium"(GIVE MSN MESSENGER FULL ACCESS) If your on WINDOWS XP and are using a router (with UPnP support), you may need to remove the current port forwardings. To do so, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections. Right-click the "Internet Gateway" (should be under the Internet Gateway heading) and choose Properties. Choose the Settings button, click each 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entry and then choose 'Delete' to each one. close Messenger (right-click the Messenger icon, choose Exit), then restart Messenger. Turn off the QoS Packet Scheduler. To do so, click Start, then click the Control Panel. If you're in category view click Network and Internet connections then click Network Connections. Right click your network/internet connection, then click Properties. Uncheck the QoS Packet Scheduler, then reboot and try again. |

Like most of you, I have trouble with msn messenger 6.1. I feel that I have tried everything. Finally I found this great site.
Everyone says to delete the RTCDLL.DLL, but i have deleted the file, booted the computer, uninstalled the messenger program, installed an older version. But the "BAD" RTCDLL.DLL keeps coming back. How can I make a file-delete permanent in XP? Hope someone can help. In advance, THANKS A LOT! Hansen494 |

Im using MSN Msger 6.1, Win XP Service Pack 1 and DSL shared through SMC router(disabled firewall) and my galfriend is using MSN Msger 6.0, Win 98, dial up.
I tried to delete the rtcdll.dll file but everytime i do it it'll get replaced automatically. Even if i try to rename it, windows would automatically replace another one. So, till now, i cant remove it. Even though is the latest from MSN Msger 6.1 but i was thinking of using MSN Msger 5.0. My problem in msger is that everytime i or my gf send and audio chat invite and when either one of us accpet it, the audio chat would connect but get dc right away. I've read in this thread that i should disable the QoS and i did so and it made things worst cause with that, i could even connect with her webcam(usually can). I was also wondering whether i should set my connection in msger to connect through a proxy and enter port 80? I tried changing the registry file too but nothing worked. I was thinking that if she upgrades to MSN Msger 6.1, would things work out? What else do i need to do? Or what else does she need to do. Please help! Please please please.... Thank you! |

To Bistz: Try Netmeeting, using this I find that normally audio and video work OK. In XP, you can open Netmeeting as follows: Start/Run then type conf.exe in the box and then click on OK. You will then be required to complete a few pages of personal details and information about your hardware. I don't know whether this is available in Windows 98. One further point, you need to use IP addresses to call. Look through the previous posts in this forum and the Dell forum I referred to in an earlier post for further details.

Hardware: One user with Dell Dimension 4600, using integrated 10/100 ethernet. Other user with custom built (Asus P4C800-E motherboard) with integrated Intel 10/100/1000 ethernet and with an add-on wireless (Linksys) PCI card. Both have cable modem access to the internet. [Note: Firewalls are not the issue here. There are no software firewalls running, UPnP is worjing well when connected through routers, and the same issues appear even when connected directly to the cable modems]
Issue: If either user connects using the integrated ethernet on the motherboard, that user can receive audio and video but not send. The problem is resolved when the user switches to a wireless connection, to dial up or to a USB ethernet adaptor. Dell advised the Dell user that the Dimension 4600 is not "set up" for video conferencing unless an add-on ethernet card is used. The other user's vendor (of the Asus-based system) has no information to offer. Has anyone ever heard of this problem or any limitations regarding the use of onboard ethernet for videoconferencing? Additional Notes: We have the same issue regardless of using MSN Messenger, Windows Messenger, Netmeeting and AOLIM. Whoever uses onboard ethernet cannot send but can receive. If this is a consistent issue with onboard ethernet, it could explain a number of issues I see below. |

Finally, it came to the point where I had messed my computer up and had to have someone get it up in running order again. I have a Dell Dimension 4400, with Windows XP Home. Would you pls help me, I am not a very computer literate person. Thanks in advance. |
