MSN Error 1603 PLEASE HELP!
Hey,
Could Someone Please help me?
I have the msn error 1603 problem, and I've tried all of your posted solutions, but NONE of the work. I Currently have the oldest msn version, whichever one that was aready programmed into my computer. I used to have msn 6, and then even got msn 7, but my dad thought it was slowing down the computer or something, so he deleted it. He somehow managed to do something (by mistkae) so that i cannot fully uninstall msn 7 (and then install msn 6), so i can't get into my msn 7 to talk to ppl, OR uninstall it.
When i go to the msn website to re-install msn 6, it won't allow me saying
"Your computer has a newer version of msn it is trying to install. To install an older version, first remove the newer version." Then it just says where to uninstall it (control panel), and ive tried it many times, it doesnt work.
MSN Error Code 1603 then pops up, but like i said nothing i do has fixed it so far.
Please help if you can, i reAlly need it. Email me and/or write it in this forum if you have anything to help. ( Sorry about the long post)
Love ya,
Ash

1)Click Start>Run
2)Type msiexec /unreg and press enter and wait untill it appears to have finished.
3)Go back to Start>Run
4)Type msiexec /regserver and press enter.
5)Try to install Messenger 6 again
6)Good luck

Me Too
I am having the same problem using windows XP Pro, I first get the message ... the folder path "My Pictures" contains an invalid character, then I get the message ... MSN Messenger setup has failed with the error code '1603'. I can't change, repair, install or uninstall messenger, and because of the mandatory security update, i can't even use the version on here. Is the same as you are getting???

Hi Bushman
Your problem is the same as I am having. I also run XP Home, on the XP professional machine the msn messeger updated no problem, the isp is aol on that one. This one is via ntl.
It is as if the programme cannot find what it is looking for, and it is soooo annoying isn't it?
I cannot even uninstall the msn messenger from my add remove programmes it comes up with the same error code and denies itself being deleted.
I have tried most the ideas posted here including the last one to your message.
I got drastic and removed windows sp2 service pack, have had two e-mails from msn messenger help both said to do the same thing but you can't because you can't uninstall the existing msn messenger.
Windows messenger has a list of all my buddies but it isn't the same as msn is it?
Any new ideas please anyone??? Make it in easy to understand please, not an IT buff but can follow easy to read instructions.
Is the conflict something to do with a security issue, I reckon it has to be as so many people seem to be suffering the same problem after updates.
Mine worked perfectly well until then.

Hi
Have been going slowly mad with the same problem and tried most the tips here.
The I tried to install some HP photsmart software to install a new digi camera and GOT a very similar problem and error code coming up with the same My pictures contains an invalid character etc etc, and NO installation of software.
Hmm I thought then MSN messenger isn't messed up it's something to do with an update (SP2 service pack) triggering off conflicts between firewall issue.
I ENABLED the windows own firewall and Disabled ALL ELEMENTS in Nortons Firewall, including ALL BUT the privacy which protects user personal information, which I left running.
I also LEFT my Nortons AV ON.
Tried to download my camera software and HEY PRESTO downloaded no problems, win firewll asked a few do I or don't I allow questions which said allow, and Nortons AV scanned certain files before allowing download.
It WORKED ....
I then downloaded msn messenger 6.2 and waited agonising that on install I would get that beeb and warning about my pics error etc but nothing, it has downloaded well, and on opening has remembered all the buddies that were there before the SP2 service pack update happened and messed everything up.
This worked for Windows XP Home with ntl isp.
The XP professional didn't have a problem with the upgrade to 6.2, on with aol isp
Thought I'd pass another fix on to all those still suffering the frustrations of this download.

Check the solution I've posted a few posts back in this same thread, and after following these steps download msn 7 and re-install it. Maybe it will work then.
