Msn Messenger wont work on my new laptop!

Hi,
My msn messenger works fine on my computer but for some reason it does'nt work on my laptop, my laptop was brought new in january and is a sony vaio k315m. The two people spin around but i get an error message after a couple of minutes. The error message i get is 0x81000301 and it says it is unable to sign in because of the service or i am not connected to the internet. My parents use the computer for the business which they run from home so i have the laptop to go on the internet with, which is why i really want to get my msn working as i am missing out on talking to my friends as some live in other countries. I have the windows which came with the laptop and norton internet security 2005.

I have spent and hour and a bit going through this site trying out the various solutions but they dont work. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Thanks,
Dan
p.s my laptop accesses the internet through a wireless network, would this have anything to do with the problem?

Do you have MSN Messenger in your Norton Allow list? If not, it may be blocking it from accessing the internet. Just follow these steps to check:
  1. Right-click on the Norton Internet Security icon in your system tray near the clock.
  2. From the menu, click on Norton Internet Security. This will show you the Norton Security Center.
  3. Click on Personal Firewall.
  4. On the right hand side of the window, click on Configure.
  5. Click on the Program Control tab.
  6. Scroll down the list of programs and find MSN Messenger.
  7. Click on Block All in the pull down menu and change it to Permit All.
  8. Click on OK.
