Hi, I've also been having the same problem while trying to sign in to MSN Messenger. It says that my contact list is unavailable at this time and to try again later. It also says error code 81000378. If anyone knows how to fix this(I have already waited a long time and it still won't work), I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

I started having the same problems about 12 hours ago. My error code was 81000314.

I am unable to sign in on all three of my Windows computer. I am unable to sign into web-based MSN Messenger, and unable to sign in with Gaim on my Linux machine.

However, I can sign in using other e-mail addresses.

Is it possible that something caused my account to be disabled on the MSN Network? How do I re-active my account? I've already tried resetting my password on www.passport.com

I'm running MSN Messenger versions 7.0, 7.5, 7.5 on the 3 Windows computers, and have not installed any new software. (Though Windows Update has asked me to reboot a few times in recent days).

I've already tried to:
- register various *.dll's
- disable all three firewalls
- disable anti-virus & anti-spyware software
- flush my DNS history via ipconfig
- clear IE temporary files, cookies, ...
but nothing has helped so far.

This happend once earlier this week but the problem went away in less than an hour.

Hey, I'm new here and just thought I'd let you know I have the exact same problem at about the exact same time the last poster mentioned! First it signed me out and said unable to access contact list or something like that, ever since then it comes up with that damn error code and says the service is temporarily unavailable. I havn't got any extra stuff for my messenger either, in fact I tried plus ages ago and hated it so I uninstalled it almost instantly and havn't added anything to my messenger since. This is really starting to annoy me now, I've tried so much now I'm just about to give up.

Error 81000314

It did the same thing to me as well yesterday around 6 pm ! I don't understand because I've tried to log on with other accounts and there seems to be no problem ! I've been trying this morning and I'm still receiving the same message:

Signing into MSN Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. 81000314.

I'm going crazy because my same hotmail account is working ! I've been having this same account since I can't remember, I hope my contact is still there..

If anyone knows anything about that error please reply !!! It might happen to anyone..
Peace

Fyi, my primary MSN account is still down after 24 hours, and my other MSN account just went down too.

Just as mentioned in one of the earlier posts, one of the error messages has turned from 81000314 to 81000378 ("You cannot use MSN Messenger at this time because your contact list is not available.")

This seems to be affecting quite a number of people and has nothing to with service availability or the general software problem associated with 81000314.

If anyone hears of a solution and/or news related to this problem, please let us know!

I am getting the same error. Steps I have taken which dont work are.
completely unistalling software, directories and left over reg keys and reinstalling. Registering all .dll files with the link provided in this forum as well as manually. Shutting other software off on startup. Repairing IE. Just about everything except the kitchen sink. I think Microsoft needs to provide us with a link to an older working version of messenger

I was thinking it may have been a virus of some sort, but I scanned for viruses and nothing was found. So it isn't that.
