MSN 7.5 On Windows XP Freezes 3 Secs after LogIn

http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/9770/untitled6ef.png

Whenever i log in, msn freezes while its loading, usualy beforethe Msn Today box opens but sometimes that will open, it worked yesterday and today i was starting to have problems with signing in (eg it saying it cannot connect etc). Whenever i sign in, it lasts 3 seconds ish, and freezes, if i had any box open that box will appear over every screen im useing, i can minimize it (thru right click on tab at bottom (if i try useing top one it goes into "not responding")), and do other things while its froze.

Any help, ive tried uninstall / reinstall and cleaned registry with TuneUp2006 etc etc.

Edit: U can see from picture that its froze while its still even loading the icons to the left hand side.

I left it running for 30 mins and it unfroze itself, so i decided to close msn and sign in again to see if the problem was fixed, to no avail tho .

I decided to follow the instructions from another thread, which in this web site was pointed to for instructions. http://www.richardsramblings.com/arc...11/000278.html

I followed them all, uninstalled, ran the Run commands, ran a registry check, reinstalled after reboot, but nothing, still same problem

Well to start off with rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %systemRoot%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove removes windows messenger not msn messenger. http://messenger.jonathankay.com/allsteps.aspx?ID=7
http://www.theeldergeek.com/messenger_removal.htm
Unofficial Windows Messenger Removal - Method II
That page is for windows messenger not msn messenger. Them registry entries is for windows messenger. http://www.msghelp.net/showthread.php?tid=26448&page=2 read what CookieRevised wrote

Quote:
First of all DO NOT remove, nor disable Windows Messenger to solve these issues. You will cripple more things then you know:

Do not use:

* "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove"-method
* "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Me ssenger\Client\PreventRun=1"-method
* "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Me ssenger\Client\PreventAutoRun=1"-method
* "GPEDIT.MSC"-method
* "renaming msmsgs.exe"-method
* "MessengerDisable.exe > Disable Windows Messenger"-method
as these methods will cripple other parts of the OS; MSN Messenger and some Plus!-plugins will not work 100% anymore (Remote
Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing, Song2Nick-plugin, etc...)
Dont them registry entries look familiar. Look at them other pages do a google search people get msn and windows messenger confused all the time they are different. I am seeing people recommending that page as a guide to remove msn messenger and its only for windows messenger not msn messenger. What version of msn messenger do you have?
They updated msn messenger not long ago to version 7.5.0306, msn messenger 7.5.0306 fixed sever bugs read here http://mess.be/ or here http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?c...tware&id=30729
Changelog

* The "Get a Webcam" link now hides together with your MSN Display Picture.
* The upgrade mechanism through patching will not show a Repair/Remove dialogue first anymore.
* The Chinese version of MSN Messenger now correctly says "Most popular Dynamic Backgrounds" instead of "Data Packets" and "Pixie" instead of "Virtual Dog". In the same version, the Voiceclip error message and tooltip now match.
* The dialing dialogue will now show up when you're on a dialup, disconnected, and trying to sign in.
* The Korean version now supports contact cards.
* MSN Messenger now goes easy on the CPU you left it running on with pending IMs, when you sign in on another machine later.
* An MSN Messenger versus MSN Toolbar bug was fixed.
They have also updated messenger plus if you have that. They updated that yesterday. http://msgplus.net/changelog.php. The only main keys that I know of in the registry for msn messenger is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSNMessenger . Delete them at your own risk. I would run windows xp system file checker. I would clear out your temp files with a good cleaner like ccleaner. Run a registry cleaner, which you said you had one TuneUp2006 which is good. There is directories that are left behind when you uninstall msn messenger. C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger and C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\ are the directories. The numbers in C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger is the different passports you use with msn messenger. And it has all of you custom emotes, winks, dynamic display pics, backgrounds etc.. Thats why if you uninstall msn messenger and reinstall it all your custom emotes etc.. is still in messenger. You can delete C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger if you want but remember you will loose all your custom stuff. If you want to completely remove everything I said, I would uninstall msn messenger. Then restart the computer. C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger is hidden to be able see that directory open up My Computer then goto Tools then to Folder Options and when that opens up you should see a View tab click on it. Where it says Hidden Files and folders, dot Show hidden files and folders and click apply then ok. Here is pics of it http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=192. Then delete C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger and delete C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\. Then I would delete them 2 registry keys. Then I would restart again and run ccleaner or if you have another one run it, I highly recommend ccleaner though. Then I would run windows xp system file checker to be on the safe side. Then I would run a registry cleaner, for a free good one I recommend regseeker . Then I would restart and install msn messenger again. Good luck. To clarify something what I said about that page being for windows messenger and not msn messenger is not directed toward you Duncan. I am just letting you know that page is really for windows messenger and not msn messenger.

MSN freezing

I have the exact same problem.. but it never works... however, it is only for 1 msn account, and it does not seem to matter what computer you use to try and log int on, it still freezes.... This has me pondering possible email corruption... or something wrong on Microsofts side of things. I can access the email via hotmail, so I'm not sure it's the corruption thing...but it's a consistent problem, and it happens on every computer...... which tells me there is nothing you can change, delete, or modify on personal computer that is going to rectify the issue.

yup same problem here

On my pc i have a multiple msn hack installed which allows me to login to more than one account at once. I can log into all of my accounts fine except one. And for some reason it freezes after about 3 seconds after it has fully logged in and the problems are identical to the posters already. This got me thinking that it couldnt be a problem my end but more likely microsofts end. I tested with different versions of msn and wlm and on different computers. None of these helped and i was still able to log into my other accounts. This leads me to believe it is a problem with that specific email address and therefore microsofts problem. Unless i have missed anything glaringly obvious
