Using Windows/msn Messenger in with exchange 2003

I would like to know if it is possible to set up windows/msn messenger with exchange 2003 without having to use passport or msn services.

Also, If I created a user in AD and created an Email Account in Exchange 2003 then created a passport account with the users email address, will that IM account still work if I disabled the user account in AD and Exchange?

Thanks,
