Doesn't log in, no contact list

I eventually managed to get MSN Live installed after a great deal of trouble, however, now it takes forever to actually log on, like several minutes, if at all, and I keep getting the error "Due to a connection problem, changes you make might not be applied to other computers you use" but eventually it will log in. However, there is no contact list. I can import a saved list but it's not organised and doesn't save so that once I log out and log in again the list is empty again! MSN 8.0 is so so poor and I wish I could just get rid of it but it won't uninstall either. MSN have no support, I can't believe they released this piece of crud. anyone have any similar problems? any ideas?

thanks, Irene x

YES. Absolutely same problem you mentioned. MSN 8.0 will take minutes to sign-in and all my 100+ contacts have shrunk to just a mere 10 contacts available. The rest are all GONE! Every sign-in i performed sees a different number of contacts in my list as well.

What is happening? I don't have a backup of all my contacts and i guess i will do it once MSN server is back. I hope they are still intact...

Me too

Hi everybody,

I have exactly the same problem with Live Messenger, since I ... tried to delete some files & forlders related to the different MSN accout.

I have tried to remove & re-install LiveMessenger : same problem.

But I noticed that use WebMessenger, all my contacts are present. This an emercy solution, but not a solution.

I posted a message on the MSN Messenger E-mail Support, and I hope (?) an answer

Good luck,
Philippe (Belgium)

hi again
i am very bored
i just recived two sulosions from the msn service but they didnt work at me try it maybe it works for you and also i khow we can get the contacs back again with using old msn but i is also very boring so i prefer to use yahoo messenger instead of it.
this is the exact messege
In Windows Live Messenger, you receive this message if the connection to the contacts server that fetches your address book is unsuccessful. However, this condition does not affect your ability to sign in to the Messenger Service.

If you receive the message when you sign in, the contact list that you see is the contact list that is cached on the local computer. When this occurs, no changes that you make to your contact list will be saved to your address book on the contacts server. However, the next time that an operation to the Address Book Clearinghouse (ABCH) must be performed, an attempt will be made to restore the connection to the contacts server.

Note: The ABCH operations include, for example, adding a contact or updating a display name

hi again
also try this one
disappearing contact or contacts list may be caused by a corrupted cache file in Windows Live Messenger or the cached contact list may not have updated correctly. To update your contact list, kindly follow these steps:

a. Sign out of Windows Live Messenger.
b. Click "Start," click "Run," type the following command, and then click "OK":
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\
c. A new Microsoft Windows Explorer window opens. In the window, click your Messenger ID.
d. Double-click the Contacts folder.
e. Delete the two folders that are in the Contacts folder.
f. Sign in to Windows Live Messenger again.

I have the long log in problem since the beta test, that I didn't mind, yesterday though my contacts started vanishing and now they've all gone, if I sign in with web messenger they're all there so they're not "gone" it's something up with MSN I think.....

I think we should keep all the topics to this problem under one thread which will be here

http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/wi...tact-list.html

because we can then send it to Microsoft to say it's not just one person with this issue.

Same problem with me. Exactly the same things are happening to a lot of users...

What a plage...

The odd about this problem is that if you log in using a previous version of MSN or if you use the webMessenger, both will log in as usual!!!

Besides, this is not happening to everyone... So odd..

Ow... I can`t forget to mention the fact that Microsoft is giving us no support at all concerning this problem!
I mean, this is not our problem, it`s theirs!!!!

Anyway, I hope they solve this problem quickly..

hmm...

It looks to me like its something to do with the new compatibility with yahoo messenger, ever since that started happening i have been having the same problems you have all described. I think it is to do with that because the yahoo-msn compatibility is only available on windows live messenger and this seems to be the only client affected.
