I have the exact same problem, used to have over 100 contacts on my list, then after an exceedingly long time signing in, the message "due to a connection problem, changes you make might not be applied to other computers you use". And when I click on the link in the error message it brings up "how to send an instant message"... maybe Microoft are trying to poke fun at me, seeing as they've taken all my contacts. Hopefully this is just a server issue, and it'll be back up in a day or two.

I too can see all my contacts on the web-based messenger, so they're not all gone... it's just something to do with Windows Live Messenger. Was a very good program before this started happening...

It looks like an issue with WML connecting to the server. When you only have a partial contact list (raises hand), if you mouse over the system tray icon, it says 'Connection Error'.
Interesting.

My mind has wings.

You would have thought that Windows would know of this problem and try to fix it.

Just need to wait and see how long it takes for them to sort it!!

Same problem with me. Exactly the same things are happening to a lot of users...

What a plage...

The odd about this problem is that if you log in using a previous version of MSN or if you use the webMessenger, both will log in as usual!!!

Besides, this is not happening to everyone... So odd..

Ow... I can`t forget to mention the fact that Microsoft is giving us no support at all concerning this problem!
I mean, this is not our problem, it`s theirs!!!!

Anyway, I hope they solve this problem quickly..

I began having this problem yesterday after successfully using WLM with no issues whatsoever... now I get the "Due to a connection problem, changes you make might not be applied to other computers you use", as well as the "Connection Error" hover message from the tray icon.

I'm on a wireless laptop connected to a LinkSys router which shares the DSL internet connection with two other PCs. I made no changes whatsoever to my laptop between the time it worked fine and when the problem began. Have any solutions arisen?

I'd like to add myself to the list of people experiencing this problem. Exactly the same issues, I can sign in but I get an error about connection problems and all or most of my contacts have vanished. Glad I'm not the only one.
