i had the same problem. i just reinstaled WLM and my contacts came back. however im still getting the connection error and a long time to connect.

I had a lot of similar problems, and after trying to reinstall several times LiveMessenger, & having suggestions from the MSN Support team (witch unfortunately didn't make it work better), I desintalled LiveMessenger and ... reinstall MSN Messenger 7.5 froms Microsoft Download site.

All my contacts are back, no more "network" problems ... Everything is perfect again !

By the way, I gave the ling to this subject/Forum to the LiveMessenger Support so that they could maybe give their solution all of you.

Just adding myself to the list of people who have this exact problem.

However, it appears the Microsoft Messenger team are now aware of this problem, and are fixing it.

ALright I found a download for the old messenger. and everything was there for the old messenger. I dont know what the problem is.

Windows Live Messenger Contacts List Issue should be resolved at this time.
The issue was due to an ABCH server issue.
If you are still unable to see your contact list or are seeing a partial contact list, I suggest the following:

Restore Windows Live Messenger client cache.
- close down Windows Live Messenger if it's running.
- Click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%userprofile%\contacts and click OK.
If nothing appears in the folder, click the Tools menu, then Options, then View tab.
- click 'Show hidden files or folders' and click OK.
- Once you are able to see the folders, right-click the one that corresponds to your login name choose Delete.
-Next, click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts
-Remove the corresponding folder again in this folder.
-Restart Messenger and try signing in again.
