Deleted Contacts and then reinstalling

Hi All,

I am using Windows Live Messenger and today have had problems with the contacts on my list. The first time I logged in loads of my contacts disappeared, the second time they all came back, but those whom I blocked became unblocked again. I tried this several more times and the same thing happended.

I then decided to uninstall Windows Live Messenger, restart my computer and then download a new copy from the Internet. I did so, and started to install it. The installation almost finished when suddenly I get the following error message:

Could not write value ImageKey to key \System\CurrentControlSet\Services\usnsvc. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personel.

The first time round I clicked "retry" and it all worked, but I had the same problem with deleted contacts as before. I uninstalled it again and the second time round clicked on "ignore" which did the same thing - it worked, but I still have the first issue (explained earlier in this post). Finally I uninstalled it again and reinstalled it this time clicking "Ignore". This time the progress bar backfired going backwards undoing the installation finally giving me an 1603 error message.

I know how to sort out the 1603 error message, but I can't seem to sort out the first error I'm getting. Any ideas?

I would like to be able to unsintall and delete ALL files and folders everywhere on my computer which relates to Windows Live Messenger and indeed MSN Messenger 7. However I don't know which folders and files to get rid of - I have unsinatlled both programs, but there are still lots of folders and files left - perhaps someone could give me a list of these?

I look forward to hearing from you.

James

Hi James
I too have the same problem with my contacts on Live messenger... one day my contacts are there the next they disappear!

With regard to uninstalling MSN did you do it through Control Panel? or just unstall via the msn program? I believe the Control Panel would be the only way to fully unstall but seeing as you have already tried and are left with some files I don't think this would work. Why not contact msn and query them?
enjoy
