Cannot add contacts to list

I have 590 names in my MSN Messenger List (under the 600 limit). When I open the chat window for about 40 of these it says "<name> is not in your contact list. Click here to add him or her now". Clicking does not add the name to the list. I have tried deleting and re-entering names, but there seems no way to get them into my list. I previously had 650 names in the list, and deleted enough to get under the 600 name limit. But there seems no way to get these 40 names into my list. When I try to edit the contact in my Messenger list it says "Status: Pending . . ." Nothing I do seems to change this status.

When I use MSN Messenger on the Mac the names so appear in my list. I have accepted contacts into my list on the Mac and they appear in the Mac Messenger list, but when I use the PC version the names are not there.

Add Contact Problem

I am having the same problem. I have about 50 contacts and I have been unable to add contacts for the past few days, whether they are Yahoo contacts or Windows Live contacts. When I add them, I get a message in their window that I need to add them to contacts. Sometimes it says that I need to unblock them even. I'm not sure if any of this is normal behavior. What I know is not normal behavior is the fact that I'm getting an hourglass (mouse icon) whenever I click the link to either add contact to list, or when I try to unblock the contact. In fact, I haven't been able to add any new contacts since this problem first started ocurring.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Messenger, but the same problem keeps happening. I'm starting to wonder if it's a server issue. I think it has to be a registry issue or a server issue, as a reinstall isn't solving the problem, and having the firewalls down doesn't help either.

When I changed the registry, it fixed the problem. I had both entries and removed them both. Now it works. Thanks all.
