Folder sharing question

hi just wondering if you create a sharing folder and then the contact on the other end agrees to it which he creates one aswell, do you have to actually go through the trouble of setting up the network on your computer through the network wizard and such before the contact from the other end can actually send me something? what i mean is if it isn't set up and the sharing folder and everything is created and ready for sharing will the files he drags and drops on the sharing folder prevent him from actually putting it in his sharing folder, if the network for sharing isn't setup will i actually recieve the files that he puts into the folder if it lets him? or do i have to go through all the network setup on this comp to actually start sharing after the folders and everything is created, or you don't need to do a network setup to be able to? just to create the folders and start sharing without creating a network for sharing on the comp first? Basically do you need to have network sharing setup on the comp first, or you don't need to have any net sharing setup at all for the sharing to work on live? for the files that are already put in the sharing folder to actually arrive from his end to mine, my sharing folder from his

sorry if you understand maybe you can help

Hi Dargon,

I have not experienced any problems you seem to be anticipating. Whenever I've set up the sharing folders, it's just a simple process, then a drag and drop and ta da . . . it's there. The only glitch I've ever had is trying to share with someone who uses WLMlite. Try setting it up and sharing! If it works, great, if not, let us know the specific problem you've encountered and we'll see if we can help solve it.

Be aware that in order to enable Sharing Folders in WLM, your hard disk needs to be formatted with the NTFS file system, not FAT32.

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt
1. Open Command Prompt. Click Start > Run. Type cmd. Press Enter.
2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter:/fs:ntfs

For example, typing convert C:/fs:ntfs would format drive C: with the NTFS format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.

Important: Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data, including programs and personal files, on the partition.
