Kshy I can tell how frustrated you are. Let's take a step back and get a little information that may help.

First - you said you're on the latest version of WLM can you please go to Help/About Messenger (from the WLM login screen but you DON'T need to try and log in to find the info) and tell me your complete build number?

Also, did you just upgrade to the version you have now and the problem started? Or have you had this version & all of a sudden it's giving you trouble.

Are you on Windows XP or Vista?

When was your last complete virus scan with up to date definitions? When did you last run a scan for spyware (I recommend Ad-Aware) with up to date definintions?

We'll try to help you out but we need some specifics. I know these questions will be frustrating but we really need to narrow down the possible causes a bit before we can help you.

Did you install anything new at the time the problem started happening? I've seen programs stop responding and shut down due to conflicts between 2 seemingly unrelated things. Did you by any chance install any 3rd party software to work with WLM?

On th main WLM login scren there is an option to troubleshoot (and you don't need to be logged in to do this.) Can you try doing that and let me know if it returns any errors or problems?

If you have spyware on your computer, regardless of WLM issues, it would be beneficial to clean them off. You should at a minimum run Ad-Aware (be sure to download the current spyware definitions first) and clean up your machine. I would do this before I did anything else.

With regard to the modem, are you currently able to connect to the internet at all? Remember WLM is using an internet connection to transmit and receive data. If your modem won't install, and this is the modem you use for internet connections, it would make perfect sense why WLM won't login. Can you verify this is the method you are using to connect to the internet and if you are able to connect and use your internet browser with no problems?

The system alert is likely a result of Windows Defender. You can click on the balloon to see what it says to do. If it's Windows Defender let it go ahead and clear out whatever it wants in terms of spyware, having a second backup program to scan with is always a good practice.

Before you go farther, have you made sure WLM is allowed through your firewall? What firewall are you using?

It could also be a conflict with something else you've installed. I had IE7 problems where it would shut down due to a Skype plugin that added automatically when I updated the other program. Conflict problems can be much harder and more time consuming to figure out. If you remember installing any other programs/dowloads/or updates right when this started happening I really need to know.

But it's also possible you have a corrupted install of WLM. Programs can get corruptions for numerous reasons. But before we go the route of a complete uninstall I'd just like to be sure you do the following:

* Clear out that System Alert for spyware
* Confirm your firewall is set to let allow WLM
* Tell me what firewall program you are using (and also if Windows Firewall is enabled or disabled if you use something else for your firewall)
* Go to Add/Remove programs, choose WLM and select REPAIR

Try logging in after the repair and see if that helps and let me know. I have 2 possible ways to go after this but I need to know if this helps and get the answers to those questions first.
