Your computer has enough power to run WLM, that's for sure. Try doing this:
  • Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. Purge your hard disk of all junk files.
  • Disable the Windows Firewall in Control Panel > Windows Firewall.
  • Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Use it to uninstall WLM completely from your computer. Reboot.
  • Download the latest stable version of WLM. Install it and try signing in again.
Good luck!

I cleaned up the disk... but when i tried to disable the firewall it came up saying due to an unidentified problem it could not display the firewall settings. And when I tried to download The windows clean up thing, I could down load it but when I went to open the file it said Active X component can't create object WScript.Shell...

Oh dear oh dear...seems like there might be something wrong or corrupt in Windows. If you have your original XP CD, insert it, go to Run and type cmd. When the command prompt window opens, type sfc /scannow and let it do its thing.

I know it's hard, but try to think back to when this problem started. What did you install, stuff like that...the fact that IE7 can't be installed into your system smells of corrupt files and/or registry keys. We gotta troubleshoot this one step at a time.

Yes, you can use the restore disc, but bear in mind the following:
  1. Your system will be restored to its original configuration, meaning that you will lose all installed programs, documents and personal settings. As such, backup all your important data to another media (thumb drive, CDR, etc) before doing the restore.
  2. Continuing on from no. 1, you'll have to install all your programs again, WLM included. This will take time and patience .
  3. Make sure to have XP service pack 2 installed (which means a lot of XP patches and updates as well).
Let us know how you get on, and I'll be around if you need further help.

My own personal rant: the manufacturers of all these pre-installed systems SHOULD include the original XP or Vista disc in the purchase. The buyer has a right to this! That is why I would never buy a named brand machine... (end of rant)
