Windows Live Messenger 8.5 problems with seeing contact responses

Hello, i have recently being experiencing the problem of not seeing what my contact is writing to me.
I have even heard that some contacts see me offline when I am completely online.
Please help me with this, because sometimes I write to my contact and the answers me but I can't see anything until my contact tells me again something.
Is it a lag?

Hello and welcome to BBB! These problems show up from time to time here in the forums. There seem to be a few different reasons they happen. So, please be patient as we try to work it out.

The most common reason for missing text (I find) is that you may have pop-up blockers turned on somewhere in your browser. You should check the default IE settings and allow pop ups everywhere you can find, as well as on any extra toolbars you may have installed (Yahoo, Google, etc.) Each toolbar generally has it's own additional setting that will need to be disabled.

A complete virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions is also a good idea.

That's my fastest easiest advice for trying to solve the missing text issue. As for the showing offline when you are online....there have been some inconsistancies lately. Rest assured that even if you show offline, if you are writing with a contact, the problem of missing text is not likely due to the online/offline status. You should still be able to hold conversations even when you are appearing offline.

That said, if your contact has any third party add-on (such as Plus!) I've found there are some scripts that may be installed which will interfere with the proper updating of contact status. You may want to find out if your contact has these and ask them to disable any scripts temporarily to see if that helps. Of course, if you have any I'd recommend disabling them as well to see if it makes any difference. I had a great one for group block and unblock - but it caused so many problems with status updates I couldn't see for my contacts, I had to stop using it.

Sometimes there is a connection problem on your end or your contact's that will prevent WLM from updating properly. If you see that msg above the contact list - you (or your contact) will want to log out and back in again to WLM to clear it, and update everything appropriately.

And sometimes, either of these issues can just be related to server issues.

Give these quick easy solutions a try and if they don't help please let me know. There are a number of other things we can try if this doesn't work. I'll cross my fingers for you this will help with one or both of the problems - please stop back and let me know!
