MSN chat log question

I have searched and searched the web for this and not come up with any definitive answer, so just wondering if anyone can help: basically (sorry if this is in the wrong place), if you don't choose to save your msn chat logs via the options menu, will there be ANY trace of your chats regardless on your computer? And if so, does anyone know where?

It's just that I know deleting and emptying your history/temporary internet files doesn't get rid of web browser history (they're in index.dat files), so does the same apply to chat logs for msn?

Thanks for the help

Welcome to BBB, Jessica. I assume you're using the latest version of WLM 8.5. Go to Tools > Options. Click on the Messages tab. In Message History (on the right) uncheck "Automatically keep a history of my conversations." If you don't choose to save your chat logs, there won't be any trace left in your computer.

WLM usually has a folder called My Chat Logs stored in your Documents folder. You can open that up, and delete the stuff that you don't want others to view.

Messenger Plus! Live has a nifty feature where you can filter off chat logging for certain contacts. If you're interested in that, post back and I'll fill you in on the details. When installing Plus! don't install the sponsor program, which is adware.

And to clarify: windows live messenger is often abbreviated WLM. And the perfect answer is right above your question Vishaal5. (And welcome to the forum!)

If you go to Tools/Options/Messages and UNCHECK "Automatically keep a history of my conversations". As the previous posts staid, they will not be stored on your computer.

The folder may exist but the conversations will not be stored on your computer - that doesn't mean your contacts won't save them though.

Is there any way to record a conversation at all possible if the setting is set to no?

Basically, I'd like to monitor a younger siblings chat log to make sure they aren't getting targeted by a pedofile or anything of the sort...

I've heard of keyloggers and such, but not really sure. Can anyone reccomend a good discreet program?
