In beginning I also thinked this has some relations with WLM, becauste this started to happen when WLM 8.5 was updated to 9.0,but in the meantime issues with malware was considered as cause, I runed some scans, deleted some threats, now AVG scans system every day and problem persists.
Now I think as much as yout that this ih simply related with some bug in WLM, but if we wait to MS to repair this.... I am thinking the same thing. If we have to wait for MS to fix it, we might as well stop using WLM! LOL! |

I have been having the same problem. I am running Windows Xp Pro SP3.
I have used SAS, Spybot, Ad Aware Anniversary Edition, Threatfire, Windows Malicious Software remover, and Avira AV. All scans came up clean. The problem started when Yahoo Messenger was updated. I am going to uninstall YM to see if this fixes the problem. At first I had thought it was the fact that I went back to IE7 from IE8. IE8 is painfully slow. (Too much junk?) I even went as far as Managing my passwords in User Accounts. I typed in msnmessenger as the server, my email and password and saved it. I rebooted and all info in user accounts and WLM were gone. As usual... |

The user profile in Windows is corrupted in some way. Unless you can pinpoint the exact moment that happened (and you really can't since you have to shut down messenger and restart to even know anything is amiss) it's really virtually impossible to know the exact cause of it.
Many people report removing malware/viruses and then having the problem, so it points to something purposely changing the user profile. However, it is possible a change in something like IE or even Yahoo potentially could do it. I've seen stranger things mess up a user profile. Bottom line is that if believe your machine is free of malware, the easiest way to correct the problem is to create a new user profile on Windows. It's a lot easier than other possible solutions to the problem for sure. -Doris- Microsoft MVP 2009 - Windows Live Messenger |

I just saw this from Jonathan Kay. I'd suggest giving it a try.

Sorry for posting in this old topic.
I have one short question. My current version of WLM+ is 4.81.0.358 and these days I am constantly warned that new version of WML is available. If I Install new version, is any chance to again have in this topic mentioned problem ?? Or this bug, or whatever it is, is repaired in latest version of WLM?? Thanks for replies
