Strange - WLM not remembering my sign-in info

When signing into MSN, i checked the boxes which say please remember me on this computer, also please remember my password.Up until the last week, this has always worked, my information has always been there, now AFTER i close down my pc, and start it again, all that information is lost.
Can anybody help please.
By the way this only happens with stored MSN Messenger info and nothing else.

This problem is copy/pasted from Yahoo Questions because I have same problem so I am looking forward to your help.

I am using Windows Live Messenger 2009, with MessengerPlus! extension (version 4.80.0.356), operation system Windows XP Professional SP3.

Hello and welcome to BBB! Can you please think back to the first time this happened and tell me if there were any updates to your system, any new software added, any changes whatsoever? How about any new security software that is supposed to do a privacy sweep? (Some security programs do this on shutdown or startup).

If the boxes are checked then they should retain the information. As a double check please go to Tools/Options/Security and make sure the box for "This is a shared computer" is not checked.

You could also go to add/remove programs and do a repair or WLM and see if that helps.

Let me know if you can think of anything that might have happened right at the time this started. If not, we have a few things we can try, but I'd like to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling if we don't need to do that.

Welcome to BBB. Yes, do the things Doris suggested and if it still doesn't work out, the problem might be at Microsoft's end (bear in mind that their servers deal with millions of WLM users 24/7)

I just saw that similar topic is already open, sorry for inconvenience.

As I can remember this was start to happen when I choosed to upade Windows Live Messenger from 8.5 version to 2009, I am thinking it is also called WLM 9.

Regarding security issues,as I know only regular anti-virus updates (AVG Anti-Virus Free) were performed, nothing serious a I am pretty sure.

Thank for replies!

AVG Free should not be interfering. I use it and don't have any issues with WLM 9.

Did you go to add/remove programs and do the repair of WLM?

I'd also suggest a scan using Malwarebytes to rule out malware as the source of the problem. Be sure to check the boxes on the last installation screen to update the definitions before you launch the program.

Let me know how these and if the problem is still happening after a repair of WLM and a malware scan.

No

But I have strange problem wtih Malwarebytes.I downloaded it, install it and when I tried to run it absolutely nothing happens, simply nothing related to this program is opened,no system tray icon and similar things.

I tried to reinstall it,but problem persists. If this thing isn´t functional maybe another anti-spayware software would be helpful, like Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D?

Hmmm - that's slightly concerning. Security software not functioning can be a symptom of a virus/trojan on a system (but it does not always mean this). Ad-aware and Spybot are generally not perceived as being able to remove the majority of threats these days.

Please download and install SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free edition)
  • Load SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Check for Updates button.
  • Once the update has finished, exit SUPERAntiSpyware. Please do NOT run a scan yet!
IMPORTANT: Do NOT open any other windows or programs while SUPERAntiSpyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.
  • Open SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Scan your Computer button.
  • Check Perform Complete Scan and then click Next.
  • SUPERAntiSpyware will now scan your computer and when it’s finished it will list all the infections it has found.
  • Make sure that they all have a check next to them, and then click Next.
  • Click Finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
  • It could be possible that it will ask you to reboot your computer in order to delete some files after reboot to complete the removal process.

A full scan is fairly long and may take a couple of hours. It may or may not find anything, but if not, we can feel better about malware being a culprit. MBAM not running still concerns me slightly, but this is my personal 2nd choice program I use for spyware/malware removal and it is widely recommended these days.

If the scan runs successfully, please then try the repair of WLM through Add/Remove programs and see what happens.

If you are unable to run SuperAntiSpyware please do not bother with the repair of WLM yet and let me know.

(FYI the icon in the system try for SuperAntiSpyware is a little "bug" or "beetle" which you can use to open the program.)

Sounds more and more like a malware problem. I'd like to do a couple things really quickly before moving on.

1. Can you please open AVG and tell me the last time the definitions updated, and the date of the last scan.
2. Also, please look in the AVG history, in the virus vault, and delete anything that might be in there.
3. Please look in your Start/Programs and verify Malwarebytes does show as an installed program (even if it won't run.)

Don't try to run anything just yet. Just let me know what you find.

Edit: I'm glad you got SAS to load and update. It's a long scan but remove anything it finds. Then reboot your system and see if you are able to login to WLM. I'd also suggest verifying that AVG has been updating and running.
