The upgrade to the new version is mandatory and I've not yet seen any hacks to get an old version working again.

The problem you detail is common, and as of now, the most common solution is to use Meebo instead. Your contact list will be intact there.

some days a go i was curious to install WLM 2009. i hadn't any problem with mu last 8.5. sorrily i face now with many problems. in chat i recive just some of my friends messsages and they recive just some of my messages too. i can't hear their voice clear and they can't hear my voice too. problem in adjusting cam too. plzzzzzzzz help me. is it possible i reinstall 8.5? i didn't find any way. and can u help me i solve my problem.??
