WLM Signs me out if I'm signed on at home

Hey guys, I've got a weird problem. I'm using the latest version of WLM on both machines.

If i'm signed on with my deskto at home, I can't stay signed on with my laptop. I am able to sign in, it tells me I'm signed on in two places, I'm able to click sign of on home-PC, but then after about 20 seconds it kicks me off.

If i sign off on my home-pc, the problem goes away. I can't do this, however, because I am not at home.

Any ideas?

Are you using any third party software such as Plus?

When you sign in to the laptop, try clicking on your display name straight away (if you can) as soon as you are logged in. Choose to log off from all locations.

After it has done this, try logging in again from your laptop. I'm hoping that logging out from all locations may force it to really log off the home computer. It's a long shot but worth a try.

I'm following a couple of other login/logout problems and hopefully they will lead to some kind of solution. There appear to be a few people with a problem getting disconnected as soon as they login. They don't reference being logged in at another location, but it's as close as I can find for the moment.

Unfortunately, I'm not finding any clear cut solutions just yet. Which operating system are you using?

Just make sure that in Tools > Options > Sign in that "Sign me out of all other places when I sign in to Messenger" is unchecked. Aside from that, it seems likely that the problem isn't at your end. I have the same laptop and PC thingy at home with WLM installed in both, and I can sign in to both without trouble.

I had an idea for a possible workaround. Sites like Meebo don't support polygamy. I tested it and this should work to disconnect your home connection.

Sign into Meebo (you do not need to register for anything, just use the MSN area and your normal login) and it should disconnect your home connection. Be sure to log out of Meebo afterwards. Then you should be able to log into the laptop with no issues.

I know it's not a perfect workaround, but if you are away from home it solves the immediate problem. I am still perplexed as to why it's happening in the first place. I'd give all the login settings a once over when you are home and can compare both machines side by side.

Let me know if this works!

When you log into Meebo what happens exactly? It can't possibly behave the same because Meebo does not give you any visual option to disconnect elsewhere - or even tell you that you are connected on another machine. It simply logs you directly in and kills the other connection.

The only notification is on the first machine (in your case the home machine) telling you that you have been logged out due to another connection.

If the home computer is re-establishing the connection automatically then I need to know if you have ever installed a script or third party program (even if you think it was removed) that re-established a lost connection automatically.
