WLM09, almost instant disconnects.

Hey guys, I've been googling this up for some hours (or months, if you count the times I've searched for it before) and I can't find anybody else with my exact issue.

So I'm sorry if anybody else posted or if this is solved already (I'd be quite happy, actually), but at least I searched.

Anyway.
About almost an year ago, when I formatted my hard drive, WLM09 worked fine. One day, it suddently didn't anymore. It connected fine, in the same time as before, everything working fine. And then, some seconds later, either I did something or not, it would just disconnect. No error, no nothing, just a disconnect, without even trying to reconnect. And it would happen over and over again.

I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything in the computer, nor on the firewall, nor on the router. Just nothing.
Other versions worked fine. I had been using MSN 8.5 until today.
So, today, as most of you probably know already, Microsoft forced the update to WLM09, so you can't use MSN anymore.

So I faced the nemesis, and installed WLM09 again. And again, the same problem.

Any solutions?

(tl,rd version: wlm disconnects when I connect, no errors, didn't change anything, already reinstalled, other msn clients work fine, has been happening for months.)

What firewall are you using? Have you tried connecting with the firewall off? (I don't usually recommend doing that, but just for a few minutes to test if the problem continues would be helpful.) Just be sure to turn the firewall back on after you test it.

Edit: I've just seen this problem pop up on another board today, but as of yet no comments or solutions on it.

Currently, not using any, so it's not that for sure.

I've seen a similar post on the Plus! forums too, but no solutions either.

wlcomm.exe is the process that is supposed to speed up signing into WLM as well as maintains contact synchronization. If this process is ended it will disconnect you from WLM. Sounds like something is ending this process, which will kick you off WLM. (You could test this by logging in and having task manager open and watching to see if the process is there and then suddenly stops.)

Do you have anything monitoring/limiting processes? (For instance I use AnVir task manager which can, if set to do so, limit certain processes when they take up a lot of memory). If you are using anything like this you might want to turn it off temporarily and check for any improvement.

I'd also suggest looking at your event logs on the computer (Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer)and seeing if you can find anything at the same time that you are disconnected. You may find a warning or something is cropping up in the logs at the same time. It's a long shot but worth a quick look.

I'll keep looking for solutions.
