webcam problem: image is mirrored

this is weird, my webcam works fine everywhere,
even the audio&video wizard of wlm works fine

but in messenger itself chatting with someone, is mirrored. any text i try to show to the cam is shown reversed.

i don't get it.

its an ms lifecam vx-5000 (driver v3.0)
on vista fam 32bits
wlm 2009 v14.0.8089.726

weirder yet, is i had the lifecam driver v3.0 installed. i just removed it 10mins ago, and it still works in wlm but still reversed.

cam settings 1 (flickr image)
webcamsettings on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

cam settings 2 (flickr image)
webcamsettings2 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

there is no more deeper setting for the cam, this is all there is i think.

the lifecam software itself only allows to take snapshots and videos and overlay cute stencils on the camera.

if anyone has contact at microsoft tell em to bring it back plz.

Hi, have you checked the Audio and Video Setup in WLM to see whether there is an advanced setting for your webcam? My Logitech C120 has an advanced setting there where I can choose to mirror horizontal or vertical. Please let me know how it goes.

yes, if you look at my 2 flickr pictures, you'd see all there is to see in the wizard.

First off, Vista is great for plug-n-play. Just because you unloaded specific drivers for your webcam doesn't mean it's not using generic drivers for your hardware.

Lifecam webcams have their own full software, not just drivers. If you want access to the advanced features I believe you need to install the LifeCam software. These settings are totally independent of the Audio/Video wizard in WLM.

While I've never known mirroring to be an issue with resolution, you can see known issues with the LifeCam here.

It could be a bug in the software, or it could be intentional. Perhaps you could contact Microsoft about it.

well the best i can do is contact them sure. i believe its a bug in msn not the driver. i discount the driver since in all other IMs and websites it works fine.

Boy this new wlm sure has allot of bugs! the more they try to put new bells and whistles in, the easier it is to break it.

ps: i have already reinstalled lifecam v3.00 it's the latest version. and the latest msn too. there is nomore settings than the 2 flickr pix i put up in my post above. that's it.

Yeah it sure looks that way. I'll tell you about another bug I had. On both my desktop and laptop running Windows 7 and the latest WLM, I discovered that my audio would randomly stop functioning. My desktop would become deathly quiet, while my laptop had no WLM notification sounds. I had to restart the audio service to enable it, which is frustrating.

I then discovered that if I were to exit WLM, the audio would magically kick in. After some thinking and with help from a friend, it occurred to me that the other same variable I had on both systems was Microsoft Security Essentials. So I took that out on both systems, and ever since that audio problem hasn't returned, touch wood. So can you believe it, two Microsoft products that won't play well with each other?

Anyway, hopefully we'll see a new version of WLM soon...it's hard to squash all the bugs, but perhaps they will try and succeed.
