August 19, 2005 Earlier this month, Yahoo! Messenger released a major upgrade with capabilities that to me, seem an awful lot like a major move toward the IP Telephony services space. Now, we are hearing conflicting signals about just wassup with this upgrade. Not long after the debut of the new Yahoo! Messenger, Piper Jaffray analyst Safa Raschtchy wrote a research note that forecasted Yahoo! would introduce a two-tier VoIP service in the very near future. The service, Raschtchy predicted, would have an ad-supported tier and a fee-based tier. Now, Yahoo! seems to be doing everything it can to dampen such speculation. But why am I still convinced something more is up than Yahoo! officially is admitting? Read the complete story at ZDNet.

I read in there that Yahoo recently acquired Dialpad (which almost OWNED the VOIP world 3 or 4 years back). Fascinating stuff, and I figure of COURSE Yahoo's going that way!

09-04-2005, 01:41 AM Personally i dont like it they took the older downloads off the site now ya forced to use it some ppl dont like the fact others can get ya IP theres a good percentage of ppl that arennt set up with the right PC security to deal with it and someones gonna get gacked into all becuz of yahoo lettin ya call over the pc.
