Anyone who has loggged into their Yahoo! Messenger today must have received an immediate IM from the Yahoo! Messenger Team. What is this message? Well here it is:

![]() So tell us, what do you think of this? And do you think maybe Yahoo! felt the need to tell us due to last time's problem? Let us know your opinion! *IM is sent from id yahoomessengerteam* (messages started being sent around 6:00 pm Central Time, about 24 hours before upcoming maintenance) Last edited by Nessa : 01-23-2007 at 03:58 PM. 12-07-2006, 11:28 PM My take is that it will be the end of YMSG protocol versions 10-14. with 8.0 and 8.1 now able to interop with WLM, LCS and IBM Lotus Sametalk, while the others can't, they won't stay around. YMSG version 16 is already on the horizon so the move sounds just about right to make at this time.

12-07-2006, 11:44 PM I don't know, they have clearly stated support for version 6.0 ends in jan 7th 2007 but support for 7 and 7.5 is not mentioned.
if they ended YMSG 10 - 13, that would kill 7 and 7.5 also Whats even worst is the fact yahoo using the pm system to notify, first time since they started.

So tonight is when we may experience problems, although i'm hoping for no downtime! Also did you try logging in and out to see if you would get the message? Since i know you were logged in before the messages starting getting sent to people right when they logged on. And for anyone trying to log on and get this message today, i haven't received it today, so maybe it was just yesterday...

12-08-2006, 11:54 AM Well for me this maintenence will be actually..the 9th as it will be about 1:30am to 3:30am
However i think its to remove YMSG 12 and preparations for the web 2.0 intregation into yahoo mail and fix the "unknown buddies" loggin in and out problem. I doubt it is to bring user rooms back as thats not really maintenence since it was disabled on purpose. As for actually using the PM system for alerting users, what better way now to think about it to inform all yahoo users on any client or program they use as all use the same pm packets.
