Friends List......Not Online

For some reason no one on my friends list is showing up as online. At first I thought the person had deleted or ignored me, but as I understand it, I would still be able to see if they are online and I just wouldn't be able to send them a message. I went in under a different username and people shows up online.
I'm not sure what could be wrong, but no matter what I do, everyone appears to be offline. I've also tried to send them a message and they said they didn't get it and I had them send me a message and I didn't get it either.

Any ideas?

After doing a bit more research, I'm still not sure. If a person puts you on thier ignore list, do they ever show up as online or do they always appear offline?

In my experience when a girl I was chatting with's cousin put all of her friends (including me) on ignore you do not see when they are online any more. After noticing that she wasn't online for several days I looked at her profile and it showed her as online so I called her and she removed me from her ignore list. I could then see her online again.
