Please please help me, webcam issues
Hello people!
I've tried posting this message before and alas, had no replies - I'm desperate people, I need your help! I am having difficulty starting my own Webcam on Yahoo IM - here are the technical details... I'm using MacOS 9.1, running Yahoo IM 2.5.1, have a DSL connection and have Norton Personal Firewall running and I'm using my JVC DV Camera After a recent OS System crash (I had to reinstall the OS from disk), I had to go back to using MacOS 9.0.2 from using MacOS 9.2.2. The webcam was working perfectly on 9.2.2, although now I am using 9.1 I keep getting the following error message: SORRY, NO WEBCAM WAS FOUND ON THIS COMPUTER. If you have a webcam, please check your connections and make sure that no other program is currently using the camera Can somone please help me - I'm new to this kind of stuff. I'm thinking that the recent OS change may have something to do with it. I thought it may be my Firewall, but I tried it enabled and disabled and no change. Should I upgrade again back to OS 9.2.2? Will this rectify the problem? Has anyone come across this problem before? Anything will be of great help. Thank you in anticipation. David |

I don't know about Y!M on MacIntosh. But if you have a message saying "No webcam found", than it's probably not a Yahoo! Messenger problem. To work, Y!M needs a well configured webcam. Maybe you should try to use your webcam with another program than Y!M to see if it works.
Another thing to check is the video source, in messenger preferences. You must be assured that the source is correctly positionned on your video device (ie : your JVC DV camera) Kiss me twice, I'm schizophrenic |

thanks for the prompt reply feufollet, but I found the problem. Just in case anyone comes across this in the future, here's what it was....
To use the webcam feature in Yahoo IM (for Macintosh anyway), you have to have the correct Quicktime (version 6) components installed. Upon installation of Quicktime, you get 3 options - Minimum, Recommended and Custom: choosing Recommended will install the DV and Firewire components needed to run Yahoo IM's webcam feature. Choosing minimum will not install the required components. Thanks again. David |
