how to increase status message length

Does anyone know of a registry key edit or updated .dll that will allow a yahoo messenger user to leave an "away" message longer than the lame 30 characters or so?

The "new status" dialog seems to limit the length to 48 characters. Type some of the new status message using the dialog. You'll find the (partial) message in the registry. Edit the registry under

(NOTE: if you don't know how to do this, it probably isn't a good thing to attempt without guidance)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\profiles\(y our ID)\CustomMsgs

You'll find a numeric key with the (partial) message you entered.
Click on the key, and supplement the message as you see fit.

I tried a fairly long string, and it worked. I have no idea how big is "too big" - it wouldn't be nice to cause a buffer-overrun in either your window or those of your friends. Use comon sense.

i could only fit 49 characters
i did what u said but it only extends the msg in the msg status bar, i doesn't work one the next to the name in the friend list?
did i miss something or what?

sorry - I stand corrected ... I did not add myself to my friend list to see if the full text flowed through. You missed nothing - you did what I did, but noticed what I did not.
