Try this, in the messenger folder,

c:\program files\yahoo!\messenger
delete the file <username>.ab <username>.cf and <username>.wcp , where username is the name that fails to log in.

Make sure messenger is closed while doing this, you must close from system tray too, right click yahoo! icon and select "sign out of yahoo! and exit" and ensure the icon has gone, then do the above. Then start messenger from startmenu or wherever it be.

If it still doesn't work could be a ban of some type, e-mail cc-advoc@yahoo-inc.com stating your ID.

Well, I think it's in Yahoo's hands now.

But some people simply report logging in through http://login.yahoo.com fixes it. These are usually temporary bans. I would leave it for a week and try again. Although it's often good to be persistant, too many times may prolong the ban.

You will have to wait a long time for Yahoo! to respond.

Send a message via Yahoo to freddy
Did you spam?
Use a bot?
Send loads of unsolicited IMs?
Abuse another user privately or publically?

Sorry for asking these, but I don't know you. If you did, you will be banned. But it's also common for Yahoo! to mess up and ban people wrongly.

I don't know how the Yahoo! banning system works. I would guess if you did something minor, it will be temporary. But I can't say for definite. Just use another ID until then.

Last month I got banned 3 times just because I
  • - changed my status too fast (I used Andy_w2s' YStatusFX...I blamed Andy for this...lol)
    - changed between room too fast
    - got booted and relogin too fast
But it only last 24 hours. Just dont login to Messenger between the time.
Hope this also works on you.
