I need a help about yahoo IP address please.

hello. i just found out that we all have a Yahoo IP address. i think thats different with PC's Ip address. anyway, i have few different ID names on yahoo messanger. i heard that even if its different ID name, my yahoo IP address are same. is that true? well, this guy was talking to me in Pm. and tryed to send me exe file i think. but i didnt accept it or download it. but next thing, he pmed me and saying he got my Yahoo Ip address(code). is that possible??? so i am afraid that if i log into different other Id name that i have, he would know its me. becasue he has my other ID name as well. what should i do? i dont want him or other people to know my all Id names. how do i avoid or hide or block my Yahoo IP address??? i putted his id name on ignore list but i think he has many ID names. I really need help with this as soon as possible. if there is anyway to hide my Yahoo Ip address. also if i log into yahoo messanger as invisible, he could try to find out my yahoo ip address when i use different id name?? if you can tell me how to fix this problem or any information about this, pleae let me know on here. i would appreciate it. ( i use old version 5.5 01254 yahoo and broadband)

It's not your yahoo IP, it's your computers IP from your isp. You have absolutely nothing to worry about here. He got your ip from the file trasnfer that you denied, i would suggest that next time he sends you a request like this, ignore it, and after like 5 minutes it will time out. The only thing that someone could really do with your ip is get a good idea where u live. Other then that, not much else can be done

johnson, thank you for your reply. oh i see. i understand now. i didnt know someone could get IP address from sending file to me and even if i deny. thats kind of weird to me. But i asked him, " ok then whats my ip address? "and he said it but itwas wrong numbers because i checked my ip address from start menue (then run, type winipcfg).so that mean, he was lieing?? even if i accept the file from him or whoever, they can get my ip address ? only through trying to send file?can he do that if i answer or talk to him or them in PM?? because he has other bunch of different yahoo id names and i dont know all of them. another question, if i use different yahoo ID, can he still see my ip address? ip address would be same? can he do that if i am invisible on yahoo messanger and if i am on java (yahoo)?

Your questions can be pretty much answered in the Yahoo FAQ. But, for a quick answer - An IP address can only be obtained if you make a direct connection with someone, ie: a file transfer, voice/web cam conversation. It's basically impossible to obtain your IP through plain text instant messages.

Its likely this guy is just trying to scare you into thinking he has some sort of control over you. Your best bet is to use the "ignore" button on losers like these. Even if he does have your IP address, its not that big of a deal. He likely doesn't know what else to do with it, but tell you he has it. Your IP address is broadcast to every webpage you connect to. Its like a phone number, you can't connect without one. Your IP is just caller-id, the only thing he can find out from it is who your Internet Service Provider is. Big Deal. Have a look through some past threads on this Forum for more info on IP's, its been addressed on countless occasions.

thanks shifter.. so i guess i dont have to worry much. because the ip address he said he got of mine, was different than the one i see on my computer. so he was lieing i guess?. i putted his id name that i know on ignore list on my yahoo messanger. i will use y tunnel from now on to avoid instant message or invitation from stranger who isnt on my friend list. also i have selected a ip address protection on ytunnel now. so this way, he cant pm me or try to find out my ip address when i use each different yahoo id name right??? i just dont want him to know where i live and know my all yahoo ids.

Actually you can go into preferences and then to privacy in the regular Yahoo! Messenger Menu and config. it to not allow people not on your friend's list to IM you. You don't need Y! Tunnel for that. I've done that for a while now. The only it DOESN'T protect you against is someone trying to add you to their list. I know what you mean about people finding out other ID's. Some guy keeps trying to add this one ID of mine even though I haven't used it in ages. And I've denied him about 3 or 4 times. Don't know how he found it....but it's likely he's just some freak from before....who was deny-a-buddied...Ahhhh...those were the days.....
