Yahoo Message Archive Decoder 2.0

For who is interested in Yahoo Message Archive Decoder, there is version 2.0 now. In the website http://www.ikitek.com/products/Yahoo...e-Decoder.html the description is:

You are using Yahoo! Messenger and you have the Message Archive (Conversation Log), but you can't read it? Or you want to know someone else's Message Archive but you cannot log in to his/her account to view his/her Message Archive? Or you want to view the Message Archive while offline?

Yahoo Message Archive Decoder can decode / decrypt *.dat files that is stored in the disk (usually in C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\{Your Yahoo! ID}\Archive\Messages) to readable form, even if you are not logged in. If you have moved the file to another location, such as diskette, CD, etc, it can still be decoded, all you need is this software and the username of the Message Archive owner. Free to try! Just download the small installation file.

Normally, you must be logged in and online to view
the Message Archive of Yahoo! Messenger.
But...

How if:
You forget your password (cannot log in), but something important is in the archive (telephone number, contact address, email address, etc)!
You want to spy other's conversation (your kids, your spouse, your employer, etc).
You feel tired to use Yahoo! Messenger internal archive viewer because it is so slow!
You want to save the archive in an elegant format (not just the plain text file, but save to HTML)
You want to see all the message archive in one big file (so you can search for some text, etc or just for viewing pleasure)

Yahoo Message Archive Decoder is the RIGHT solution for you!

Features:
View the message archive without logging in (in offline mode)
More than 10 times faster than the Yahoo!'s internal message viewer
Processes all files in a directory, but single file decoding is also avaliable
Supports message formatting (bold, italic, underline, font colors, font face, font size)
Outputs HTML file (you can save it), with costumizable template
Supports graphical smileys
Can modify registry to enable message archiving without logging in first
Simple and automated user interface
Improved directory auto-detection
More efficient HTML output resulting in smaller HTML file

Technically it is not illegal if it is on the same computer. A parent has the legal right to view their childrens converstions. Which is what this program does. He was not suggesting being able to view other peoples conversations that were on other computers

*Buzz* Incorrect.
Same computer does not make it legal. I share PC's with my other half and we are both adults. His messages are his private things, Its NOT legal for me to go in and read his just because we share the same PC. Thats why there are passwords.
Parent issue, again Incorrect agruement. A properly obtained under age Yahoo ID a parent is needed and they are informed of any password changes etc. So you see they would always be able to login under their childs ID and check.

Or you want to know someone else's Message Archive but you cannot log in to his/her account to view his/her Message Archive?
hmmm I read that as wanting to read someone else's. I already scratched the same PC theory.

A parent does have the legal right to view their childrens conversations. Try talking to a judge about the issue. I have know of people going to court over those programs that can show people your keystrokes. Yes, a child is entitled to privacy, but as a legal guardian, a parent can legally view and monitor their childrens messages.... it happens all the time, legally.

Did you not understand it?

Yes as I said a parent has the right to know all the kid does online.

What your not understanding is that they have all the info they need to check it. (ie)

With knowing the kids password etc they can sign in and check anytime.
No need for decoding.

In the question of PC (Personal Computer; ie. YOUR personal computer) it is ILLEGAL for you to log any conversations, and read them, as this is an invasion of privicy. In the question of children under the age of magority, it is however legal for a parent to monitor, and view any activity the child does, as snugg pointed out. 90% of kids wont give up their PW's to parents, or tell them they are creating ID's so this is where the parent's activity can come into play.

Children 13 and under are not permitted to use Yahoo! Chat.

Children under 18 are not permitted to use Yahoo! Messenger.

Children 14-18 may use chat, and a parent, if they actually care, should watch what their children under 16 do while online. Viewing archives later is pretty stupid, as whatever the child did, has been done, so it should be prevented first, before it happens.

This software should be used for your own personal accounts only. The reasons have been stated clear enough and this issue is closed. No need to continue this debate, as both sides have there points, I see no resolution. Accept the legalities and use this software appropriately.
