No Audio in the newest Yahoo Messenger.

I am a Senior Systems Analyst. My girlfriend has had a number of problems lately on her PC and I can not be threre to fix it myself. I am doing everything remotely to walk her through fixes. It slow but, its working. She has a Pavillion XG922 running XP home.
Her PC got a virus ... we got rid of it.
Her PC got hijacked by FreeSearch... we got rid of it..

Then one day she tells me she decided to do a HP Recovery. Why she did that I do not know. But, the sound card did not work properly afterwards. With some help from HP (they sent a new driver) ... we fixed it.

The Audio ICON was not available in Yahoo on her end after the new driver was installed. So, I had her downloaded the newest version of Yahoo Messenger. We are not sure we like it yet.

Yet, Audio did not work in the latest version of MSN nor in the new Yahoo. Last night I managed to get her to make some changes. Audio became available in both Messengers. Now we can converse across the net with MSN Messenger. Qualiy is excellent.

However, Yahoo refuses to allow us to chat. It spends a lot of time "connecting" when one of us Accepts the invitation. Then it will disconnect noting that there is a problem in the network....
Sometimes when it does this it will knock the webcams offline too.

Why does it work with MSN and not with Yahoo? I know I need to get her to check to see if her XP firewall is enabled. Should we go back to the older Yahoo? She has a lot of family contacts in her Yahoo Messenger is there a way to go backwards with losing all her contacts?

i could not get any audio in chatrooms with the new yahoo in chat so I had to go back to 5.6,but from what I was told not too long ago I heard yahoo is doing alot of tweaking with their servers and such.so that could be a possible reason.

For some reason it just started working with out us doing anything to it. Perhaps it was something in a Yahoo! Server that was causing the problem. Quality is great too!

Yahoo manages all contacts online. You can uninstall Yahoo messenger and reinstall an older version without losing any contacts at all. As soon as you log on to the newly installed Messenger, all of your contacts will still be there.
