Disable chat rooms only

I was wondering if it's possible to disable the chat rooms feature for Yahoo. I would like to be able to use pm's for people on a friends list and chat that way but to not have the ability to view or go into chat rooms. Anybody have any tips? Thanks for any help.

Registry Tweak
start->run->regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Yahoo!\Messenger\Local

Create New DWORD Disable Chat With a value of 1

Do this also to the Default Section

Thanks UnSaKreD for posting your reply. I'm pretty familiar with registry edits but I couldn't find that key u mentioned. The root HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Yahoo!\Messenger doesn't exist for me. The closest I could find is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Yahoo!\Pager\Locale. And wouldn't the Dword key have to be written as "DisableChat" with no space? Thanks again for your help.

EDIT:
I'm using Yahoo v6 and your regedit worked. I just had to put the key in the root I mentioned HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Yahoo!\Pager\Locale. Also, you were right and the Dword value has to be written as "Disable Chat" with a space. May I ask where you found this regedit for Yahoo?

And in case anyone wanted to use this edit to disable chat rooms for their kids, beware that other menu entries like "Join user in chat" can still be used to enter chat rooms. To disable those entries you need to hack some yahoo dll files but I'm not sure if I'm allowed posting that info here. Just keep in mind that this registry edit will not completely prevent access to the rooms.

Have you thought about using a messenger that only allows messaging? I have used a barebones (no audibles, imvironments, etc) messenger called TIM (Tiny Instant Messenger) to PM with my Yahoo friends. It is available here http://yahelite.org/client I am sure if you search there are other programs available also.

Thanks for the tip on that other client. I'm happy with the way messenger is set up now. The chat button is disabled on the program and there's no chat entries on any of the menus either so all you can do is pm while all the other yahoo features are working.

I was wondering by doing all this does it help, I mean yahoo web messenger is still available so if they really wanted couldnt they just use that to chat?

You could use your Hosts file or Internet security settings to disable the web interface as well I suppose.
