How many contacts can I add?

I already have 40 contacts on my yahoo messenger. When I started adding more than 40, a message like this will show:

"Your request to add a contact has taken longer than expected to complete. The operation might have succeeded; please check you Messenger list later."

i waited long enough, but still the contact han't been added.
are there any limitations of adding contacts? how many contacts can I add anyway?

you can add up to 100 contacts and ignore 100 contacts on your friends list.

but wait! what is the problem w/ my messenger? I tried my other account with just few contacts & the other contacts were added fast.

OK FOR YAHOO MESSENGER ABOVE 6.0 YOU CAN ADD UP 2 1000 CONTACTS. THAT IS RIGHT 1000. IF YOU HAVE A SIDEKICK OR HIPTOP THEN OUT OF THOSE 1000 CONTACTS ONLY 200 APPEAR. That answer is actually 4 years old now if you didn't read the timestamp. AFAIK, the limit is 300 users added, and still 99 users ignored.
