Can talk in and be heard in yahoo voice chat but cant hear whats being said

Hey yall...this is my first time posting a thread..I've been using the forums here tho for quite sometime...Ive been using yahoo messenger for about 6 years now...and I know my way around the tricks and trades for messenger purdy good..Ive recently started using the new messenger..up until then for about 3 years i was running 1254, well for umm other purposes..hee hee and I'll leave it at that..but anyways I have a friend that is having a problem and I've done a process of elimination, to a certain degree to try and help her but to no avail, hence the fact of me being here ..anyways...she is using the new messenger (which i dont know a whole lot about yet) and she can get voice in the chat rooms and in pm boxes and everyone can hear her talking but she cant hear anyone talking..she says when she joins chat she can hear for like 20 seconds or so then it fades out...i tried voicing with her in a pm box and i heard her just fine..she just could not hear me...she says she can hear sounds in the yahoo games, launchcast radio, mediaplayer...EVERYTHING ELSE ..EXCEPT in yahoo voice chat (rooms or private)..I initially thought it could be her sound card may be trying to go out, but if that be the case, wouldnt she have some other issues in hearing anything else?...so im not sure if there is something within the yahoo folder that can be altered/added or deleted to help her problem..i had her to run audio wizard and she says that it tells her everything is fine..she doesnt get an error in voice chat and her talk button remains green she just cannot hear anyone..she even went back to an older verison of messenger and its doing the same thing..ive spent two hours reading the forums here and searching the net for answers and im really at a loss here ..if anyone has any insight as to what might be wrong or how to help her...please let me know..ty so much for your time in reading this and yall have a good-un!

Can't hear after a while

:crying: I am having the SAME problem. Please someone Help!

In Yahoo Messenger chat conference, I can hear everyone, and they can hear me for about 5 minutes. Then, after 5 minutes, I can no longer hear them, but they can still hear me. I have to get out of the chat room, and they have to re-invite me. This does this every time. Help.

Awww...don't cry ..smile ....this is an update to my first post and in response to "marshur's" replied post.......after doing and looking through COUNTLESS things within my friends system.......I guess...."yes, no, maybe " one of my first gut feelings of what MIGHT be wrong, was (assumingly) right, being since we never really found the EXACT problem...this, however IS how we got her "ears" (so to speak lol) back in chat(yahoo).........*Big Ol' Breath*....errr ummm...*SiGhS* ...ok.....my first thought was...trojan of some sorts..and gawd bless ive had my share of those and the lil nassy s.o.b.'s have a tendancy to mess up what you thought couldnt be messed up and so on..sooooo....AFTER posting my thread here....I continued talking with her and what i shouldve asked to begin with, I decided to ask then....."What kind of anti-virus" are you using?...she told me pccillin but it was outdated and wouldnt update due to her not having a key.....LOL well ya know we might need to fix that...she wasnt happy with this..wanted her "ears" in chat back first....after explaining that if you get infected and lose your system due to lack of knowledge as to how to fix it..then you not only will NOT have ears you wont have a pc either ...lol........i have used pccillin in the past...wasnt all that thrilled with it...I've been a nortons user for years...not COMPLETELY satisfied with them either..lol..(am i just to picky, hmm ..i'd say so)...so...i had her to go to her startup directory and remove the pccillin from running when she rebooted....then had her to go get the home version of avast (which is what i use know and it has been VERY effective....found 40 TROJANS..(GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR) on my system that nortons had been overlooking for gawd only knows how long!!) http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html ....so..she disabled pccillin..downloaded avast from the link above and registered it.....ran a scan and it found 12 trojans..10 which she delted and 2 she put in the chest (an option for avast)...rebooted and she said she still didnt have voice.....i would have opted for her to do a custom uninstall at this point of yahoo and then delete out the progams folder and reinstall..but she didnt.......once she UNINSTALLED pccillin and rebooted again she HAD EARS IN CHAT..YAYYYYYYY!!...I personally think it was some sort of trojan that maybe altered settings somewhere along the line...she seems to think it was pccillin, which a friend of hers had installed on her system without her permission...but unless it was just infected fromt he time she installed i dont really see where that would have effected her being able to hear things in chat........because like I said..i used pccillin and for over a year i did so......so the only thing i can suggest is maybe doing an online scan at avast http://www.avast.com/eng/online_scanner.html .......and possibly downloading their worm/trojan remover http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_cleaner.html that you can use at anytime (on or offline) ...and if you are using pccillin...get rid of it(not saying anything bad about pccillin..just talking about the problems at hand).....other than that...I really dont know what else to think...I also had her to go to microsoft (lord dont get me started on them lol) and download the beta version of anti-spyware...this spyware remover is awesome in my opinion (ive always used spybot and spysweeper, which are both good)...it also does real time scanning you can get it here.. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx I hope I have been some sort of help to someone with the same problem..I tend to babble and hope i didnt get to far off the subject..Thanks to everyone who read my problem and hopin' you all have a fantabulous day ....oh and btw....I've been dying to say "heya" to Unsakred..hee hee...and umm yeah...buddy spy NEVA leaves my taskbar... hee hee gotta love stuff like dat...yall take care..sees ya latas...~Kitty
