Question about IP Addresses

Is it possible for one person using two different profiles to have two different IP addresses on a single pc? The two IP's are different numbers completely. Like: 24.56....@neo.rr.com and the other 64.56....@neo.rr.com. Is it possible that they could be using a pc and a lap top. Would their lap top and pc have the same ip address if they are using the lap top at home. Also, what does the cpe in front of the ip address mean?

If they have the same connection and single router then they will have just one IP address. I might be wrong though. In my appartment, my room-mates' computers have the same IP address as mine, and we use a single ISP with a router.

I dont step aside. I step UP!

yes, if you're using a router to connect multiple computers, then the outside IP address will be the same, but each machine will have its own internal address. if you're connected through separate connections somehow, then you'll have different addresses

As I was going down the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today; I wish I wish he'd go away.

ok, but when I run the netstat command, which ip adddress would show, the 'outside' ip address or the internal address. Also, when running a traceroute on each of the ip addresses it shows two different towns.

yes, I am using the netstat -n command. The two addresses are different

except for the neo.rr.com. When I run a traceroute using www.ip2location.com/free.asp it traces the ip to the town and they are two different ones. So the chances of it being the same person are slim right? On netstat which ip address would show, the internal or the outside ip address?

Yes and no. If they have dialup it could be possible that they have a different IP address each time they come online... not at the same time though.

Theirs? The outside address, as you can't access their 'local' IP, since you are not in their local network.

Thanks. Everytime I am chatting with either one, their ip address is the same every time. They use roadrunner.

Oh I forgot, about tracing it to the town. If they were the same person wouldn't the town be the same?

Keep in mind that there are IP changes, and HIders. I have actually changed my IP to somewhere in Ohio. So yes they can get my IP, but it's not going to tell them any thing about me, because I've changed it.
