YM-7 When is a Call NOT a Call ?!

I ADORE the new Call function. Absolutely the highlight of YM7 for me!

But.. I'm puzzled about the Voice Message (VM) part.
Firstly, it seems there is no way to automatically trigger sending the VM - in other words if I see a friend online, and decide to send him a VM, I must initiate via "Call Computer" - and he'll probably accept, which blows my chance! Seems stupid !?

But assuming I've prewarned him so he does NOT respond, the time taken before YM tells me "The person u r calling is not answering... pse leave a VM" is usually exactly 65 secs, but can sometimes be 22 secs, and sometimes even "immediate" (0 secs!). Perhaps this inconsistency is just due to "Beta" status, and will be standardised in final version - but I wonder if anyone knows the "rules" for it ?

Especially frustrating is having to wait thru 65 seconds of ringing when I can SEE my buddy is NOT online! Mr.Yahoo - surely THAT is crazy !?

Well I haven't used the call feature much (except for the one time you called me). Maybe that person is invisible when you call, and thats why you have to wait? Or maybe it just rings through so you can't automatically tell if someone is really offline or just invisible, sort of a privacy protection thing?

Yeah, it might be a privacy feature, but all I can say for now is wait until the full release, and see if there won't be a "leave a voicemail" option. If there isn't, then hopefully the timing will at least be shortened. I'm sure they probably did make it go as long when the person is offline to secure their privacy (i.e. new feature on BuddySpy: Voicemail exploit!) haha. Their probably already is one. Anyway, yeah, i'd say wait it out until the full release, which won't be long at all.

Ian, you do NOT have to use the "Call Computer" feature. Hre is what you do: Click Menu item ACTIONS on the Yahoo! Messenger window, and then select "Invite to a Conference..." This will open up a window labeled "Invite Contacts to a Voice Chat". Here you simply select the names shown on the left in your Buiddy List, and move them to the right side, and then follow the instruction.
I did try this out once and it did not work -- like before. May be we can try this out when you and I are using the CALL feature to talk next time.

Hi PK.
Cross purposes !

In YM6 the two voice functions (neither of which YOU could access) were virtually identical - one in the IM window, for just 2 people, the other in the (Voice) Conference window, for more than two.

In YM7 the Voice Conference (or "Voice Chat") that you describe remains the same, but....

On the IM side, the voice part is now known as CALL - which lets you either talk direct, OR if friend doesn't answer, to leave a Voice Message, a.k.a. VoiceMail (hence my abbreviating to VM).
