is a request to add a contact still pending

i added a contact to my messenger list but am not sure the person still uses the yahoo id i added. i haven't gotten back a request denied but is there any way that i can tell if my request is still pending.
also the contact i added was showing on my list by the persons name not yahoo id now it started showing up as the yahoo id and i didn't change anything. how could the way it appears on my list have changed?

Which version of Yahoo Messenger are you using?

If you believe the contact you added hasn't used their id, the only thing I can think of is checking their yahoo profile and see when it was last updated. I know that's not really helpful to determine their status but at least it'll give you some idea.

As far as I'm concerned there is no way to check if the request is still pending and if you have not received any message back, it is likely the person has not signed on to yahoo messenger.

As for the contact's name having changed on it's own. Are you sure you did not update the names on the address book? If you put their name on there it will show their name on the contact list rather than their id. Were you to delete the name from the address book, it would show as the yahoo id on the contact list.

The person may be using the id. If they just allow you to add their name to your list and if they do not add you to their list, you will not get a notification of any sort.
So they might be using the id but that person may not have added you to their list.

i'm using version 6 of messenger. i've checked the profile but he never changes his profile. i know he won't add me to his list it gets him in too much trouble at home so i guess all i can do is keep trying to catch him online. as for the way the name on my list appears i'm sure i didn't change my address book. when i signed in to messenger it appeared as just the name but when i went to sign out later it appeared as the id. but the next time i signed in it was back to the name so i don't know what was up with that.

If you want to find out for sure you could upgrade to vesion 7 beta. In this one, when you add soneone, their name appears on your buddy list, but until it is accepted or denied, there is no smiley showing their online status next to their name, just a blank spot.

In the new Beta version of messenger buddy requests are handled a bit different.

When you add someone now on 7.0 yahoo will keep sending that add request until it is answered.

this been if you had a buddy request window up and you crashed...and reboot your pc...and relogin...the buddy request box will reopen upon signing in and will remain to do so till you accept it.

However this is not handled too well in 6.0 been why people will have problems mixing both versions between buddies.

Its like a similar issue with people on 6.0/7.0 using a buddy deny on a 5.6 user...it does not seem to work too well.
