Got the following question via email (please post in the forums, folks!):
I am often working on line and I hear knocks and doors opening and I open messenger and see nothing. There is no one visable there. I cannot find a button or menu item to answer the person knocking. How do I answer a knock? What is going on with all these sounds. I go to the Help pull down and cannot get any answers. Where do I go to get a basics tutorial to use Yahoo Messenger? Please expalint o me what is going on when I am hearing the doors open and slam shut. There is nothing to see and it is very annoying. I called Yahoo and they simply prompt me to go on line to Yahoo by phone but I have questions concerning Messenger. I do not want to add voice.
The only thing that comes to mind is that perhaps that happens because the person on his list has put him on "appear permanently offline" and it has been known in Yahoo Messenger to show you at first when you log on or off. For example there are times I am on invisible and if I log off people see my name log off and hear the door sound even though I am invisible. The strange thing with his situation is that (and if I undestand correctly) he doesn't see anything come up on his yahoo like a little box with a name?
the knock knock is someone comeing online, thay could be going invisable as soon as thay get online ,if you want to check it out best way to do it is to add yourself as a buddy and see what happens..also helps you see what others see about you when you are online
I have a number of people on my list who I never(?) see online, except at times I get the "knockknock" (with little popup in lower right saying xxx just came online) followed almost immediately by the "doorslam" (with popup saying xxx went offline).
I assume these people open their YM then immediately switch to invisible.
If I'm not paying attention it's easy to miss the "online"/"offline" popup messages.
