Display Image Smeared

I had a bet with a friend that I couldn't save their display image ...so anyway I went to my folder where they are stored and changed the file extension to .png and saved them..but most of them look all smeared with rainbow colors...is there a way to fix this or just an explanation as to why this happens?
thank you in advance...

I'm surprised - I can go view my friends' ones that way with no smear or distortion at all.
No idea why that should happen for you.

Most of the times Winxp Paint doesn't correctly display png files received by Y!m, there's a free png editor: Easypeg. Thumbplus, Viewprint also can display png.

That's fascinating, Aneagle!
I never use the Windows picture viewer, but I tried it on one of those PNGs and indeed it does mutilate the image terribly. I also tried it on another (non YM) PNG, with same result.

I normally use IrfanView (also free) which is fine - so I'd guess the PNGs from YM are really quite ok, but the Windows viewer is at fault.

HBKid, I hope that explains your smearing, and you'll be happy now !??

30min Googling turned up THIS, which has links etc covering the problem, I guess.
I suggest either upgrade to XP SP2, and/or use IrfanView or one of those that Aneagle suggested, rather than the built-in XP viewer.

Thanks HBK
Though Aneagle offered only 2 lines, they were the highlight!! Taught me something brand new too.

Anyway HBK, glad you came back with your response - so many people just grab the solution they wanted then run.... and we never know.

But hey, a belated WELCOME to you .... you ARE now one of "us" (well, I hope you will be anyway )
