The small Yahoo Ad in the main window

I have version 7.5.0.881. Is this the final 7.5? I couldn't find anything about it being beta in it, on on the download page, and the link to version 7.0 si no longer present in messenger.yahoo.com

Anyway, this version features a small ad in the main window, below the contact list. See the attached image, it's that little banner with international calls that I'm talking about. It changes frequently. I'm interested in removing it, since yahoo isn't a really stable or bug free program, and by downloading small banners all the time, it's a disaster waiting to happen (well, crash). So the question is: does anyone know the IP address or the site from which it gets these banners? Or a port or something that can be blocked from the firewall. I imagine it can be done, and yahoo will simply believe the ad server is not responding or something like that. Anyone?

Yes it is possible to remove it. Try reading this or this. Hope they help.

OK, thanks. The first topic you pointed me to goes to a link on Dermot's website. The second speaks about removing ads from chat rooms (have no idea what that is, having never tried yahoo chat, i think it's a different thing than IMs). Before running any of these programs, I'd like to know they'd fix my problem, remove the add that's below the buddies list, not some ads in chatrooms, webcams or wherever else they might appear.

So can anyone say which solution they've used to remove the ad below the buddies list? I won't try them before and see what happens, the less you mess with YM, the better

They are both to remove the ads from Yahoo Messenger. The one i personally used was the one on Dermot's page. I used it to remove the one you showed in the image attached (the ad below yahoo messenger buddy list) and it worked. When you open chat through messenger it shows the ads also, which is why i linked you to both, cuz it's all yahoo ads which they've added on messenger.

I used it myself just now, and the ad doesn't show anymore, just a white rectangle. Thanks for the tip!

You are very welcome. Glad it worked.

Well the 7.5 final version is here now.I just installed it and i can say that the ad box is there,on the bottom of the window but it doesnt show any ads.How weird is that??

By the way i just formated my computer two days ago so there's no issue of registry "left overs" and i havent used an ad remover either.

Dreaming of Armageddon...

I upgraded to 811 a few days ago - and I think the ads WERE still there then, but I've noticed just empty space for the last day or two.

Interested to know it's not "just me".

Maybe Yahoo just suppressed them for a while, for some nefarious - or other - reason.
Whatever, I don't care much either way.

Someone also showed me this registry patch http://ratsoid.net/download/misc/YM_7_No_Ads_Final.rar that also removes the white space at the botton of Yahoo, not just the ad. I'd say it's the best of all the cracks out there, you can use it even if you previously used another ad remover.
