See who has you as permanently offline

Hello everyone,
I could be wrong but it seems to me I've discovered how you can tell if someone on your Yahoo Messenger list wants you to see them as permanently offline.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned already. I've noticed lately, and perhaps it's a glitch they'll fix, that when I log on as invisible and then try to use stealth/online presence to choose to let someone see me as online that it doesn't register. Their name stays in italics and my status will still say invisible to all. This only happens for some people on my list.

I have two yahoo id's so I went to one and used stealth to have the other id see me as permanently offline, went back to the other id and sure enough it will not let me change status (in stealth/online presence) to 'online' for the previous id. I suppose this does not mean much really because I've done that to people on my list yet I don't hate them, I just prefer to only chat to them when I have time, but just thought I would mention it and see whether others agree this is happening for them as well. thats a very interesting theory, and you're probably right. Those are the odd things that are truly glitches.

I love to try a test of a bunch of my friends.. some who have it on and those to don't, then try a test to see if you can tell who does and who doesn. lol

But I have a feeling you're right.

I think you have something there but what do you do if that person has you permanently offline before he logs in as invisible?

Hi to all, I've had the same problem with one of my friends on my messenger. I didn't have them as permanently offline, and when I tried to show them that I was online, messenger would not accept it and show me as online to them. So I checked that person as permanently offline, and went back and checked them to let them know that I was online, and that worked and showed that they were able to see me online and also showed me that I was visible to one. I seem to have trouble with just this one contact.. So I am beginning to think that this contact has done something, and I did think that possibly the contact had checked me as permanently offline.

I have problems with just one person too...and its possible they blocked me...

I tried a test with a friend she blocked me but I did manage to make me appear online to her...then she unblocked me and the next time I was invis and tried to appear online to her it DIDNT work.....so I blocked her and then tried....success....

I tried with my two id's to see if the recipient actually can see you as online even though your own status does not change to 'available (to 1 contact)' and it worked.

As mentioned somewhere else in the forum, you can also do a two-step process, choose for the id to see you as permanently offline, and THEN choose for them to see you as online, which seems to change your own status indicator to what it should be.

I just thought I would point out that they really can see you the first time even though our id status does not indicate that. It's nicer to see it though I think because sometimes you forget who you've made yourself visible to, etc.

And again, I find this problem only happens with some people on my list and I still believe it's the people that have used their stealth settings so you see them as permanently offline. Just remember, they don't hate you, if they did they'd delete you and then put you on ignore lol.

Strigoi, I'm pretty sure it does the same thing even if they have chosen to be permanently offline to you before they log in as invisible. Try it with a friend maybe.

I have been experimenting with this...I logged in using my Primary Yahoo ID and set the stealth settings for my Secondary ID as 'permanently offline.' Then I logged with the Secondary ID, but I was able to adjust the stealth settings for the Primary ID.

Interestingly, when I logged back in with the Primary ID, I was NOT able to reset the stealth settings. I would select either ‘online’ or ‘offline’ and close the stealth settings box. When I opened the stealth settings box again, it would still be set to 'permanently offline.’ At one point, the contact name was not italicized anymore, but the setting still said 'permanently offline.' After I logged off and then logged back on again, the settings were correct.

guys, i tried it and here is my conclusion: the dudes on ur list appear in italics because YOU blocked them!!
and the only option u CANNOT click is "appear offline", but u can appear online or permanently offline to them! that's all! so u CANNOT tell if they blocked you or not!!

Well, guys... I have had the same problem many times. And there's more that I think is also related to the subject. Seems like last week or so some people in my Friends List have seen me online when I had been invisible. Is it possible that Yahoo's servers make that mistake since I am sure that people who see me on don't use any stealth programs.
