On line status advisor not working.

On my website I inserted the HTML code, provided by Yahoo, which displays my on line status.

It used to work okay but I have noticed that it hasn't done so for quite some time.

I suspect that may be some security setting, either in my browser, IE6, or in ZoneAlarm, but I have had a good look around and fiddled with the settings in both but the indication stays at off line even when I am not.

Does anyone have any suggestions which might sort it out please?

I personally do not have a problem with ZoneAlarm. I would either upgrade your IE6 or try another browser.

I use Maxthon Browser and I am very happy with it.

Best of luck.

Thank you William.

Well, I haven't changed my browser since installing the code so I don't suspect it per se.

I have Firefox installed too but seldom use it. But I did check with that and my status is still always shown as off line.

I normally have my privacy setting to log in as Offline (invisible to everyone) and then change it to Available later.

After reading bluesforsuze's thread "See who has you as permanently offline" I thought that the two problems may be related in some way.

I changed my privacy setting to log in as Available and the status indicator on my site now works correctly. Or at least partly.

If I then change my status to Invisible the indicator still says on line, even after a screen refresh.

Firstly David - Welcome to BigBlueBall.
Nice to have you aboard here.

As for the online/offline - I think noone can be 100% certain with such things around Yahoo lately, though hopefully some of us can at least remain in the high 90%'s, rather than just always 50/50

I tend to "believe" simply what my YM tells me about friends' status, as I feel the various other sites (including Yahoo sites) that purport to show status can be misleading enough of the time to render them of dubious or little value.

May I ask, do you have yourself on your own friends' list ? This can be very helpful to (hopefully) be sure to see yourself exactly as OTHERS see you.

And, perhaps a red herring, do u have any problem displaying/changing your Display Image ?

I personally have YM opening always as Invisible, then I invariably change to available soon after - and I never (? knowingly!?) have a problem with people seeing the wrong thing - ALTHOUGH I have a feeling there WERE perhaps problems in this region for a few days, a few days ago. These I put down to Yahoo messups, and I hope/assume they're now fine again.

I'm glad that logging in as Available *seems* to have cured your immediate problem, but I just don't believe you should have to. Are you sure that THAT caused the improvement, or could it have been coincidence of timing ?

I hope WE (i.e. you, me, ALL YM users) will in time find the answers, and be able to have confidence in our settings again.

Hello and thank you Eagle_Kiwi.

I have noticed many short-term anomalies in various Yahoo things. This one, though, seems, according to the corresondence in that other thread, rather more tenacious.

I have changed my settings a couple of times and as long as I log on in Available mode my status is displayed correctly on my web site's indicator. But it should come as no surprise to hear that it doesn't change when I subsequently change to Invisible to Everyone!

A bit like the cat hiding behind a curtain ... with his tail is sticking out!

At least I now have the satisfaction of knowing why the indication was stuck at off line and I shan't lose any sleep about it.

Sorry to have missed you when you tried to call earlier. I was in the arms of Morpheus. I shall try to contact you.

Best regards.
