Unclickable links? A newbie question

I'm new to Yahoo messenger (using 7.5.0.814; XP pro), so forgive the stupid question, but why aren't links sent to me clickable? A friend sent a link, but when i click on it, nothing happens. Is there some setting I need to change?

Thanks for the help.

Wow!

Well, my BigBlueBall friend, I can click the links, but it just opens windows explorer (like in windows explorer the file manager) to my profile.
Weird!
The same yahoo mess (814) worked perfect in my xpsp1, but after the installation of sp2...puff! not working anymore.
Anywho, your problem is so much cooler!

PS: If didn't do that already, you could check the box "Open links in a new browser window" from Preferences under General.

PS2: My problem is about to be resolved. I have Firefox as my default browser, but when I put Internet Explorer (7) as my default browser it works. I am almost there!

PlayStation3: Nothing. Regmon tells me that there are more than 600 queries difference between IExplorer and Firefox as my default browser.

Hi LongBoarder,

I've had the same problem.
My specs: WinXP SP2, Firefox 1.5x (= default browser, no IE7 installed), Yahoo messenger 8.0.0.701.
I had this problem starting in 7.5 though.

What solved it in my case:
In Preferences > General, I *UNchecked* "Open weblinks in a new browser window".
I know, it sounds illogical, but hey, it worked for me.
Hope this helps.

unclickable links

Hi,

This problem is caused when Yahoo! messenger sees no default browser selected for URL file types.

You have to go to Control panel and go to folder options

Click the Filetypes tab

and make sure urls and http commands are handled by a browser like pic below...which i have Firefox 2.0 b1 handling them.

If you see no icons selected to left of the following..

(none) URL:File Transfer Protocol
(none) URL:Gopher Protocol
(none) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
(none) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy

This means your links won't open as your filetypes for these actions do not know how to open the said protocols.

Highlight each one and go to Adavanced and press it..

you should now see..

Highlight Open and click Edit

And you will get the open http box as this example shows how the following is set.

(none) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol

You will see this..

Thus this is working properly as i have Firefox set to open Http links.

So you will have to Click browse if you dont have an application set fot it and pick iexplore.exe or firefox.exe from your Program files folder.

And set the file for handling all the four mentioned above and reboot and your links should open again.

Hope this helps.
